It's ridiculous to call this the best defense ever 5 games into the season. People get caught up in stats too much. As Bill Belichick says, Stats are for losers. Margin of victory is for winners.
BTW, it's a function of style of play. Sabans style dictates stats. Stats don't necessarily mean you have the best defense. For instance, LSU hasn't played 2 cream puffs; i.e N Tex and Kent St; only 1. Saban doesn't let off the pedal even up big. Chavis, for some reason, does. LSU gets up big, then plays the bend don't break mentality. I like Saban's style more, but it absolutely dictates bottom line numbers. Turnover margin also counts and LSU is 3, Bama 54. Is that a stat that matters?
To me, the defenses have performed equally well. All I know is Nov 5 should be good and LSU has got the Honey Badger, a lot of haters pick of most overrated player coming into the season. Wrong answer. Try again.

The bottom three are borderline, that's why I put them on bottom. They will go either first or second round.
Hightower is projected first round by almost everyone.
CJ is a sure lock first rounder, unless injured.
He is the best defender on the team.
