This. Football season can't start soon enough. This feels like the longest damn offseason in history...

Bama dominated every single team they played last year including LSU. State was the only team they didn't beat by 3tds
well there was that game that Bama won by -3 points as well

Why so much confidence both teams will just blow the SEC and the rest of the country away?

Because they both did it to everyone last year?

Bama looks like a team that is rebuilding on defense much like 2 years ago. They lost some studs on an incredible defense. Do most think they plug in new guys and don't miss a beat? I just don't buy that. Would not want a part of them later in the season after they have time to gel.. This years team has the look of 2010 and poss 2-3 losses.

Except there are five starters back on defense, as opposed to one in 2010. And the offensive line has nearly 90 combined starts. Just do a little research on what that stat usually correlates to. 2008 Alabama is a great example.

just thinking about Bama;s O line vs LSU'd dline has me amped up. I wonder if there have ever been such heralded groups go toe to toe before

JPW..

2008 was great until the SECCG. I knew we wouldn't beat UF, but we'd score and I'd go, "OMG MAYBE WE WILL WIN" then Tebow would get all... Tebow, and all hope was lost.

They went toe-to-toe last year. Maybe neither unit entered the 2011 season with as much hype as they will this season, but they are just as talented with another year of seasoning. Alabama's offensive line only allowed four sacks versus LSU in two games.

That was my point, sort-of. The 2008 Alabama offense was mediocre at best, aside from the offensive line. That line elevated the team to a 12-2 record. Sure, the defense was stellar, but it was much younger and more inexperienced than the one Alabama will field in 2012. I really think that 2008 squad is a decent comparison for 2012 Alabama. I could live with a 12-2 Sugar Bowl season.

The Bama Oline was the difference in the game. AJ had time Jefferson didn't.

Alabama's offensive line only allowed 17 sacks in 13 games in 2011. And that was with the constant shuffling to start the season, when 8 of the 17 occurred.

Same. It's a pretty good thing to have to "settle" on a 12-2 season. Those Shula years were just... depressing. Like the Northern Illinois game...

Sadly I will never forget those years, as that was my college experience.

Yep once the line settled they rarely gave up a sack. Stoutland has been a pleasant surprise. Pendry did so well I thought there would be some drop off, but last yrs line was the best so far under Saban. Though 08 line could line up and get 4 to 5 yards easy, but were exposed on obvious passing downs kinda like LSUs line from 2011.

Alabama returns an awesome OL, solid QB, and has talent at the skill positions.

Their defense has been #1 in the conference for like 4 straight years.

LSU returns a sick defense, special teams, OL, and stable of RB's like no other in the country. Also they might have the best pass rush in the country next year on their front 4.

That's pretty much why. No one else comes close at the moment.

Even the best of the rest of the country isn't close. With petrino out at Arkansas, they're probably out of the running, if you call 2 3+TD beat downs last year in the running.

UGA, and USCe are really all that remain in their path, and Bama doesn't play either team next year, while LSU only plays USCe. UF is still a year away from contending.

Pretty straight forward.
