Both Conferences only want one school from the State of North Carolina and, likewise, both Conferences only want one school from Virginia. They will work together to acheive this end (that is) if expansion occurs at all. And if it does, expect VT and UNC to be the newest SEC members. UNC will go to the SEC EAST Divsion of FL, GA and USCe. VT will join KY,TN and VU in the SEC North. Missouri will be moved to the SEC West Division.

Probably. ESPN may already be conspiring to keep them together, though. Probably don't want Fox Sports/Big Ten Network to get all that revenue from NC with Duke.

Not to mention the additional money they'll have to spend for UNC and Virginia with the SEC Network.

Exactly right on the expansion front(disagree about the pod structure).

It's hilarious to me that people keep trying to say that Duke and UNC are a package deal, when in reality, the only way they remain the same conference is for the ACC to survive. They won't both be in the B1G, nor will they both be in the SEC. Too much money lost in the process with this market-driven expansion...

The overwhelming opinion is that this is all driven by TV revenue. Which it is.

However, we're at a point where there are cable/satellite companies actually losing subscribers to less expensive options through the internet.

There is a limit to what people will pay for television entertainment. I don't think it's in anyone's best interest (ESPN/Fox/SEC/Big Ten) to have everyone in North Carolina paying $2/month extra (as opposed to $1) to have the SEC and the Big Ten Network.

I think the conspiracy is keeping them together or having as many teams as possible in the big 12.

It will suck if LSU ends up in a pod with A&M, Arkansas, and Missouri. Essentially relegated to a former SWC/Big 12 member pod, which is BS. Meanwhile, presumably the 4th pod would include nothing but traditional SEC members with UA, AU, OM and MSU. It may be geographically legitimate, but totally inequitable in terms of maintaining any semblance of traditional SEC connections.

Think of the Cotton and Cornbread divisions like the B1G's Leaders, and the Sweet Tea and Grits like the B1G's Legends.

Not really advocating anything, just suggesting that LSU's new pod would be a fringe, SWC type part of the SEC with exactly zero other charter members in the group. Could potentially threaten any chance for LSU to recruit in GA and FL. I realize there will be plenty of pod overlap every year, but 75% of the West pod would have joined the league since 1992.

As a LSU fan, i would be pumped about that division. Arky and A&M are suitable challengers, and, mizzou - everyone needs a bottomfeeder. Plus, we get five hopefully six games each year to rotate thru the other 12 members. That is what keeps the SEC connection.

You make a good point -- but make no mistake -- there is NO limit within feasibility to what people in the southeast will be willing to pay for an SEC network. And those in NC will pay the $$ to follow the Tar Heels WAY before they pay it for the Blue Devils, which is again advantage SEC.

What is SEC baseball and basketball 7 days a week worth? An SEC-only sportscenter? See where I'm going with this? I'd pay $10/mo easily for that. Hell, I already pay that for hailstate.tv...
