It's worse than you think.
SPC Elder, the shooter (who later died of his wounds) was facing a court martial for stealing equipment from the motor pool and trying to sell it. That was in addition to multiple pending civil and criminal charges stemming from actions he did during post-deployment leave.
Guy simply could not own up to what he did and decided to blame LTC Tisdale, who was only enforcing standards and doing his due diligence as a commander.

According to a thread on texags, some of them were in College Station but their vehicles got towed before they could get to the funeral. Apparently the city had no intention of letting them protest either.
