Not a bad hire given the circumstances. Should help with recruiting, but there is a good chance he will end up being a bust.

Bama fans were legitimately wondering if they were waiting for Izzo to be eliminated.
Literally no one believed this.

Absolutely a home run. Would be the equivalent of Gruden taking the UT job a couple years ago. Watch the National media response... Huge hire.
You must have got the kool aid heavy sugar. Slow down cowboy.

Great hire imo. Time will tell if he can make it happen at the college level. I think he can.

If he has any success he will leave for the NBA asap, but there is even a bigger chance he will end up being a bust. No way would I have hired him.

You've done a good job convincing yourself.

When you consider the alternative was going to be Prohm I would be ecstatic too, to be honest

i dont think its a terrible move.

I am intrigued to see how he does. I actually can see his personality and style do well in college. I could see him become a recruiting heavy weight. Time will tell. I don't think they had a choice. They needed someone with some personality, passion, and emotion.
This is truly a hire that I can't say it is good or bad. We will find out within 2-4 years.
Most sensible post I've seen on the subject and it comes from an Auburn man. Thank you, sir, for your pragmatic response. I wholeheartedly agree.
On the surface, a big splash hire with name recognition. How it works out, only time will tell. As I said early, this is a boom or bust hire.

I would have been fine with Prohm. We just would have been stuck with him longer if he didn't work out because he's an alum.

The only thing I remember this guy for is chocking with one of the most talented teams ever in the NBA and being a terrible coach at his other 2 stops, oh and his squeaky voice.

Great hire He should be able to bring loads of talent which is 70% of the game. Now he just needs a good assistant, probably some former college head coaches.

Okay then it will be much easier to go out and make a Greg Marshall like hire...

Then this is a home run

Come on...calling this a homerun hire is forcing it, and it's not congruent to Gruden going to Tennessee. Maybe if Avery had won an NBA Championship and any college experience it would be similar. Instead, Avery has zero college coaching experience, and only 8 total years coaching in the NBA.

Would have rather had Marshall obviously, but since he's not an option I don't have an issue with this.

I think the hire will at least help keep this recruiting class in tact. We needed a "name" hire to resonate with our recruits for that to happen.
He also has an NBA background and name recognition and that will also resonate with recruits in the future.
The only question mark is if he can coach the college game. I think he will do fine but I can see how some may not be sold until they see it on the court.
