Well, in 1983, AU was awarded the NC in more polls than any other team in the country. About a dozen of them.
You know the 2004 story, so why ask? I said it should have been a split title and it should have. If AU and USC had played, it is not possible to say who would have won or who was better that year.

Auburn was more deserving than any other team in the nation to be called national champions in 1983. When I have more time I can show you the strengths of schedule from every top team that year, their entire body of work, etc, etc.
And we did have some polls award us the national title. NEW YORK TIMES SON
