Best thing for Pearl in the long run would be for Bama and Grant to win this game. Aubarn fans would write it off as Pearl not having his players yet and he is still on his honeymoon. A win for Grant at Aubarn would probably save his job. Next year Pearl would be recruiting and competing against a lame duck Grant, instead of a new Bama coach and a fired up Bama fan base. BTW, with the money Bama is paying, they could get a top coach.

I wish Grant would be publicly announced he will not return next year, so I can go back to rooting for Bama.
Now, we are on the fence. On one side, of course Bama fans want to win, especially against Auburn. But, on the other side, if Bama starts winning, we'd be stuck with him again.

Someone please explain to me how the Grant hire has turned into such a dumpster fire? From what I remember he was very good at VCU and was supposed to be the next big thing... He has more money, resources, and more support at Alabama(or am I wrong?). I mean WTF has happened?

To label it a dumpster fire is probably going a bit too far. That is the issue. Grant has been a perennial bubble team during his whole tenure, until last year and looking like this year, too. TBH, he was snubbed once or twice by the NCAA tourney. However, this does not take away the fact that he hasn't done as well as hoped.
To say he was very good at VCU can be now called into question considering how Shaka Smart has risen the Rams to even better standards than Grant had them.
On a scale of 1- 10, Grant is about a 5 -6 on coaching. He's a 10 on running a clean program, but is sub par every where else. His personality is not one that gets fired up all the time, and I'm afraid that personality, for the worse, his rubbed off on his players.
They just lack the fire in their eyes.

Winning or losing this game will not decide Grant's fate. Lots of ignorance in this thread. I assume Bama will lose, but it means nothing in the big picture.
How did he do last time they played? The game that AU dominated and held a big lead late? Pearl choked, taking the air out of the ball. Pearl is a great rah rah guy and good recruiter, but his coaching is and has almost always been lacking. Do people forget all the talent he wasted at UT his last few seasons.
Pearl didn't even have a winning record at UT against Grant. What makes you think he is better now at a much lesser AU program?
