If you couldn't look at Bama and UGA's gameplan and come up w/ an approximation then you are a fail coordinator, and that's pretty much what we have. Blame it on "Marine" stubborness, Pinkel's conservative defense or whatever you want, it's irrelevant, we've seen it before. If Pinkel really want's to win the big games he's going to have to get a real DC and let him take it over, much like Henson just did with the offense last season.

Stec is the classic example of the great position coach that doesn't translate to a great coordinator, but his time in on the staff and ambition to move up got him his chance as a DC. Pinkels history and practice of promoting from within rather than going out and making a big splash hire will likely be the major factor in him not getting over the hump as a top level coach.

He's a system guy that needs coordinators who can over achieve on gameday planning, but he doesn't seem to be aware of or want to admit that fact.

We were driving down the field and an INT in the endzone by Shaw ended it.

I'm pretty sure it was Shaw.

We we're winning by 8.

Can you get more than that for a TD?

True.

But the very act of having to try to win the game with a last minute TD is a direct indication that USCe didn't have Auburn "beat" correct?
Wasnt Auburn up by 8 at the time? Best USCe could do was tie

Spot on Reedus, schematically though Steck has no clue on how to scheme vs the option, ala the Navy bowl game, sure the LBers were not athletic enough but that was compounded by the fact that they were in a formation that let AU OL climb to the 2nd level at will.

I hear ya Tackle, but I think he does know HOW to scheme against it. He made the changes for a short period and it worked. I think his problem is that he carries that militaristic mentality that says I will beat you down doing it my way. Almost makes it worse that he seems to have known, but refuses and is too stubborn to do it. Almost like he thinks it's a sign of defeat or failure to actually have to make the change.

Yes we were. But on the SECr, anytime a team is close to Auburn at the end of the game, we should have lost

Just the way it is

Once DC makes a plan that's it. Doesn't matter how bad it's going or well something else is working.

Must be the ex marine in him

Damn. Should have kept reading. My thoughts spot on.

Auburn was always going to be a tough game for us. Their option offense was our kryptonite. Our DEs were great, the tackles average; our LBs were good, but slow; their power running game was fantastic. With the best game plan in the world, based on personnel that was going to be a tough game for us. Alabama would have been an easier game for our team last year.

That said, all the stuff mentioned about Steck's plan and his weaknesses were spot on. He has a terrible time with option offenses. And he's beyond stubborn, refuses to move away from his plan. Often to our detriment.

Not sure anyone was going to be able to do much against our offense once nick figured things out last year. We pretty much ran all over bama and fsu as well who were the top 2 defenses in the country. Put up 30+ on both and left lots of points on the field as well with nick missing wide open tds.

Also look at crunch time in both of those games. We just ran right over bama and fsu with ease when we needed to score late.

i believe that was the first game that Auburn had played on turf as well. May have had something to do with it

Jagd, GP has certainly earned that reputation, but I think his most recent hires have been pretty solid and outside of his cronies. henson. Washington. Grinch...oh wait. Isn't he related to GP? Actually, I think Grinch has earned his stripes, recruiting at least. We'll see with the on the field coaching.

Yeah, I think the turf helped our run even more. Masons lateral cuts were unreal.

this is the unfortunate attitude of a lot of Mizzou fans, to make excuses for poor coaching decisions after an obvious failure like the SEC title game.

at some point we will out grow this "just happy to compete" attitude but for now you can expect a lot more of this "stupidity", sorry but that's really what it is.

Right on the money.

None of y'all know shite about X's and O's and it hurts my soul to see so many of you talk out of your arse. We played a 3 down front intended to give the LBs better vision of the play and flow to the ball. What happened was that when it came down to matchup football, the interior lineman got beat on his 1 on 1 assignment routinely.

Steck? Is that you? Why didn't you try something different when the 3-man line was failing so miserably?
