If you could keep Athens crowd to I85 and northwest of that, you'd have a great time to be had by all. When the Lawrenceville and Loganville necks show up, that's when the shite talking goes through the roof.

Hold on now, how many people in Lawrenceville still speak English? I'm throwing the BS flag out on that one.

I'm sure there are plenty of stories of AU fans being dicks. There were just several years there where I think a lot of AU fans would say that Athens was the worst/most hostile environment for opposing fans.

It was strange for me because I was living there. My day to day stuff (as an open AU person) was fine. I got my car keyed for an AU sticker, but nobody ever gave me much shite. So it was weird when things got so heated in 2007.

My bad experiences have actually been with the obvious transplant students. Never had an issue with redneck UGA fans or typical fraternity/southern UGA students.

I mean, I get unsolicited shite talking from trashy UGA fans all the time in Atlanta, but that's just annoying.

Like many in here, I'm in a mixed family of Auburn and UGA grads, so I've been around this rivalry for a long time. That said, the 2007 game was "different". It wasn't shite talking, it was ugliness like I had never really seen in this rivalry. Look, I understand the hate following the 2010 game, but things changed for the worse in 2007.

Auburn really is a nice place to visit for a game. I have nothing but good things to say about how we have been treated over there. With that said......frick Auburn

Not to generalize, but I can even sympathize with how it happened. You're kicking arse, jumping up and down, and then you're let out into the night liquored up and looking to kill something.

WG:

Man I don't know if I'm going or not. Have some friends in town not going, and the GF is mostly going with her group of grad school girlfriends. We'll see.

That sucks. You still got a beer waiting on ya if you do.

Btw did you have any incidents downtown after the 07 game? If so there's a chance I was the instigator lol

Once we actually got downtown things were kinda tense, but fine. The only fights I saw in/outside bars were among UGA fans, and there were a number of them.

We rowdy.

I've never really experienced any of this type stuff anywhere to be honest. Nothing more than general ribbing I guess.

Last year after the Auburn game all the AU people at the bar just kinda shrugged their shoulders. Wasn't a whole lot to say

I've never had any other experience at UGA (or really any other school) other than that year when I thought "shite this could get bad." I did have a friend get his ankle broken at UGA a couple years prior, but he's a notorious shite talker so I highly doubt it was unprompted.

I've seen AU fans start fights with rival fans at Auburn for no reason, so it obviously happens to everyone. Hopefully not a very common experience for visitors, of course.

I don't really think it's common anywhere. shite just gets blown out of proportion on message boards.

If you go to a GT message board they'll tell you to avoid Athens completely for a game. Tailgates at UGA for the GT game are like the final fight scene in Green Street Hooligans. Or so they say

I imagine North Campus is pretty intimidating to the dorks, what with the people having fun and socializing with ladies.

As an aside, I grew up a Tech fan and my hatred for UGA is pretty obvious, but they're just awful to be around. During an Auburn-Tech game in college, we spurned our own fraternity to hang out at another fraternity house because there was much more going on and we knew a lot of guys there. Some nerds from our chapter saw us, and shortly thereafter I got a call from our president saying some officer from Tech's chapter was mad we weren't hanging out at their house.

You see the shite we have to deal with? Tech fans are the worst. No question about it.

I admittedly pull for Tech over UGA, but I do look at both their performances and fan base and recognize that they really don't deserve to win anything.
