our club team could only keep games close against the dregs of the conference.

LSU has been dragging this conference down for years.

You were not the only team to shut us out either.

Damn that season had to suck for AU fans. Losing 87-0 combined to your biggest rivals would be tough to take. How the hell you fricks turned it around in less than 12 months is a freaking miracle.

Just missed one against Western Carolina last year. Let their QB scramble for a 19-yard gain on 3rd and 9 at midfield, they later made a 49-yard FG for their only points of the game.

They only crossed midfield twice the rest of the way, and we emptied the benches against them late. But we should have had the SHO.

Samford's probably our best shot at breaking the drought.

We were over it before those games started.

I stayed a full four quarters for every single game that season, home or away, and it was worth every painstaking moment for us to get Gus back.

AU fans before those UGA and Bama games were hilarious. It was just, "Alright, let's just get this over with. Do your worst."

Easily the worst season in my lifetime, and I'm 53.

We were all pretty numb by that point. Being embarrassed on such an epic scale did completely crush the "Chiz just needs another year" talk, so in reality y'all did us a huge favor.

That's why Bama let off after the first possession of the 2nd half. We hoped only losing 7-0 in the 2nd half would convince Jacobs to give Chizik one more shot.

That season was the first time I was rooting for us to lose As hard as it was to accept, I wanted UGA and Bama to destroy us and put us out of our misery. Thankfulyl Chizik gonna chiz everywhere, so it happened.

And that's not a slight to the defense

Why don't you just call a spade a spade? AU's defense sucks. The offense is great.

There, I said it, so you don't have to.

We are currently 4th or 5th in every major team defensive category.

It's early yet, but we're #21 in scoring defense (#6 SEC) and #31 in total defense (#5 SEC).

Two games into the season last year we were averaging giving up 440 yards of offense. Got that down to 323, against arguably better offenses. We held Arky to 175 yards and 27 points below their season average.

But, as I said, it's early yet. KState's averaging 43 points and 475 yards a game. Will be interesting to see how we do against them.

Depends on what your definition of sucks is. I wouldn't even say they sucked last year. We were great in certain areas - red zone, 3rd down, etc. We gave up a good bit between the 20's, but we really buckled down when it mattered.

We can be good on defense with this kind of offense. We'll probably never have a Tuberville like D with this offense, but that doesn't really matter when you're scoring 40+ a game. I think our D will improve as the year goes on and I think we'll probably end up with a top 6 or 7 D in the league. That's good enough to win a lot of games with our offense.

I was actually in school during Barfield years, so I could handle 2012. But it is funny to see SEC fans of other schools bragging about beating AU in 2012. Heckfire, everybody beat us like a Peterson kid that year!

LSU fans, need not apply.

The last season in which Alabama did NOT record at least 1 shutout was 2010. The last season before that was 2007.
