Al Borges is returning to Auburn. @CoachGusMalzahn told me today that Borges will work under Chip Lindsey as an offensive analyst.

That is not a bad idea at all. Lindsey is a bit green at coaching OC at this level and having Borges on hand for advice (or to step in if Lindsey falls apart completely) is a smart move for Auburn.

For those that don't know Al Borges:

quote:

Borges joined the Auburn staff in 2004. Auburn went 41-9 in the four seasons Borges was the offensive coordinator. Auburn was the only Southeastern Conference (SEC) team to finish ranked in the top 15 each of those seasons.[2] Borges is credited with much of the success of the 2004 Auburn Tigers football team which recorded a perfect 13-0 season under his "Gulf Coast Offense" scheme. Borges resigned from Auburn December 10, 2007, after a steady decline in the team's offensive production, before the team's appearance in the New Year's Eve Chick-fil-A Bowl.[8]

Interesting tidbit from a few years ago:

quote:

Never did he imagine wanting to live in Alabama, but after four years at Auburn, he'd jump at the chance to live in the state again, he said.

Gorgeous Borges back on the Plains.

Gus is so stubborn and anal, he must be on a high dosage of Prozac if he's letting all these guys tinker around under the hood of his Bus. lol:

I thought Auburn people credited the defense for that run of success? Those defenses from 04-07 were outstanding

Damn right, it's a good hire. AU has a good bit of youth on the offensive staff, Borges will be a great addition of knowledge and experience.

Those defenses were awesome but look at the difference between 2003 and 2004. The difference was bringing in Borges on offense. 2003 was still a great defense (all the same cast of characters in 2004 but add Karlos Dansby, Dontarrius Thomas, and Reggie Torbor at LB), but the offense was shite.

His West Coast offense took Jason Campbell from a liability to SEC Offensive Player of the Year and 1st round draft pick. Even the QB guru Petrino didn't get tons out of Campbell. The biggest thing though was Borges found a way to seamlessly and beautifully get Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown on the field at the same time and split the ball between them. That offense wasn't flashy, and Tubs kept it conservative but much like some of Malzahn's offenses, nobody was going to stop the 2004 Auburn offense if we really needed a score.

We're pretty good at multitasking, and have the ability to credit both the offense and defense for their success during that time. However, the defense was salty as hell.

Well of course they get most of the credit, but Al turned Campbell into an NFL QB and got the offense moving by recognizing how to use the talent AU had. AU was dead in the water without him, and by that I mean no SEC championship.

I'm excited about him at analyst and Chip Lindsey at OC. People might not realize Chip was offensive analyst during the last SEC championship. From what I've seen since he left, the adaptability to Nick Marshall probably should be credited to him. With that said, both seem to have a knack of recognizing what will work.

Now how did this post of mine get 3 down-votes? Fess up you pussies, let your grievances be heard. This place is anonymous of course. No need to hide in the darkness. You can have balls here and speak up, and do what you are unable to do in person.

Haha I don't care about the actual voting, just trying to push discussion. This place is lacking most of the time. It appears the common trend is to open a thread and reply by flame (with a minority actually talking) or pushing a damned arrow to express how you feel about it. Just odd to me.
