Bama far far ahead of Clemson in recruiting and they gave Bama all it could handle in the NCG.

Only retort I can make to this, is that was the end of the season where all their kinks had been worked out. Same can obviously be said with AU and this being the first game too.

I think CU wins by 17 though.

All Auburn has to do is let the field soak and marinate overnight like they did before the last Iron Bowl

I do think that our defense should continue to improve from the end of last year and be pretty solid. We have a lot of talent and depth on the D line, and some good talent and experience in the secondary. With it being the first game of the year, and night game at JHS, I think the defense will be able to make some plays and keep us in the game. But even if we do play well on defense, Clemson and Watson will get theirs. I think holding CU to 27 to 31 points will probably be a success for Auburn.

Prior to last year, it seemed like a Gus lead offense was a pretty safe bet to score 30 points, however that is obviously dependent on us finding a respectable QB. Auburn will need to get off to a quick start and keep the crowd into it early on and find a way to try and score 30 points against a good defensive coordinator that is having to replace a lot of talent. I think with the excitement of a new season and it being a televised night game with a lot of hype, Auburn will keep it close going into the 4th which is all I can hope for. But I would be pretty surprised if we pulled off the upset.

ATLTiger12 nails it. We feel great about our D, but if Watson is on they are going to score no matter how well we play on that side of the ball.
On the other side, the strength of our team is our interior line and RBs, whereas the strength of Clemsons d should be the interior d line and MLB. I don't think we are built to attack them where they need to be attacked right out of the gate, which is that they are basically breaking in a new secondary.

I think our best bet is Franklin at QB, running tons of zone read stuff, trying deep balls (I think we are better off trying to hit a few home runs than trying to complete a ton of 10 yard passes), and hope for a big turnover or two or special teams play. Like others have said, I think 31 ish points for clemson is a win for our d, but I'm just not sold on our o scoring more than that until they prove it after last season.

Looking forward to the game. Should be a really fun atmosphere

Steele.

Y'all will be lucky to hold Clemson under 40.

Before 3/4 of clemson's defense left for the NFL this past spring, South Carolina played them to within 5 with a walk on QB...

Just sayin'...

Things do happen. AU may rise up and win a close game. They can't go 3 and out until they wear the D out because if they do Dabo will run a train on them and score40+.

Good luck SEC. Good luck Auburn.

The TD pass Coker threw where he caused two AU defenders to miss, then hit an open receiver in the end zone. That's the type of play AU fans should worry about from Clemson.

This was all said before and I agree with much of what was said. Clemson is going to come out strong, but with some small weaknesses to overcome mostly on defense. Good news is since it is the first game and no one including Auburn has any idea what the offense will be (assuming it is not gut, gut, whiz, kick) they cannot really prepare as well as Auburn. Being prepared for Watson and stopping him are two very different things. There are a many things that have to go right for Auburn to win, and if a couple do not happen no chance. It could still be close, but no shot at a win.

Here is my wish list:

Win the turnover battle.
Keep the defense rested and rotated throughout the game.
A solid QB with a game plan built for his strengths. At this point I don't care who as long as it is the right man in the right playbook, not White as a running QB or JJ with the world on his shoulders.
Red zone touchdowns not FG's.
Keep Watson reasonably contained.

All of that keeps this a close game. I feel like holding Clemson under 35 is a moral victory. Holding the game to within 7 points is as good as a win and 10 will not be grounds for a melt if the Offense shows some ability. If at any point this goes off the rails I think 40+ could be conservative for what Auburn could give up. I feel like the talent is all there to win the game, but it will take coaching and a chunk of luck to do it.

Best case 28-24 Auburn
Worst case 49-16 Clemson

Final answer 34-27 Clemson.

Tell Gus to find a TE and use him often. A TE would be a huge advantage in Gus' style of offense, he needs to be working non-stop with someone that can block well and catch a ball. OJ Howard was money vs that CU defense.

He only uses them in the red zone. The H back is used a little more as a weapon but for the most part, our tight end blocks.

Clemson scored 40 against Alabama in the NCG. This game will be a blowout by halftime. Watson will sit after middle of the 3rd.

His red zone offense has been lacking - I realize he doesn't have a Lutzenkerchin (sp) but that staff should been able to get a TE producing for them.

Hell, shake things up and break his tendencies and use the TE in area's other than the RZ. It would take some opponents by surprise and take some pressure off the QB & those green WRs. Just a thought.

It's been lacking since late 2014> I believe a lot of that has to do with not having a big possession receiver like Duke or Coates.
If the offense doesn't break one from mid-field or so it seems like it always stalls and ends up with a field goal.

SC scored their last touchdown with 1 second left , so it is meanngless to say it was only 5 point difference. reality is SC got beat by double digits at home despite 3 bad turnovers that killed good drives by CU's best 3 players on offense.

We had CJ Uzamah and under utilized him. He was a red zone weapon

Gus is pretty much a closed book in my opinion. He has what he does and that is pretty much it. When he changes from what has worked in the past, he struggles.
I am not so much on him being a offensive genius but a guy who has a system that works when it works.

Not just with a walkon QB, they were a talent and coach depleted South Carolina team at that. A team can be dangerous when they have nothing to lose and in this particular game Auburn has nothing to lose since everyone expects Clemson to win easily.
