This year? Absolutely.
So what you're saying is a coaches first year shouldn't be used as a true gauge of how good a coach is? Interesting
But if that coaches win total decreases in his second year that should probably be cause for concern IMO

If that's what you took from that, you're too far gone. I had already previously stated AU was competitive with quality wins. With AUs roster, I stated preseason if Pearl had AU close to .500, it was his best coaching job yet.

Bert defense held lsu and ole miss to zero points
And this is an accomplishment?
LSU just fielded one of the worst offenses in recent SEC history and OM was just being OM. Bert is not the be all end all coach you think he is. If he produces the same record he did last year he might be gone

Bert & Bruce both have monumental building projects under construction. Both with will have a decent foundation that will be recognizable in the 2015 season.

Bro we're talking about basketball here. Mike Anderson has brought in great classes

Roster, shmoster
It doesn't matter what his roster looks like or what talent the previous coach left behind. If Pearl can't beat elite teams like Arkansas in his first year it shows he's a fatass fraud of a coach.

I think Bruce will improve AU basketball more than Bret improves Arky football. I agree that they both have been handed monumental task

I hope you see the irony of this. Pearl has more SEC wins in season one than bert has in two seasons. For my money, I would take Pearl over bert eight days a week.....and we are getting more for our money with Pearl.

Our second year coach improved last season, unlike other second year coaches in the league

It was pretty obvious it was coming after seeing his teams improve each year he's been here

And this includes losing more SEC games his first year than his predecessor did the year before.

Irony? I know not of this irony you speak of
Also lol @ you comparing football to basketball. Apples and oranges my friend, apples and oranges

And he did it without ever having a losing record like you guys are on pace for. As a percentage Pearl has a larger space to improve so you are correct. Statistically he will bring the Tiger up much further than Mike.

Did he really?
LSU offense was so one dimensional that my old High School defense could have been competitive and OM had just given up by that point. I think the first few games this year will be more of an eye test than the examples you provided

Coaching is coaching, no matter what sport it is. Arky has finished at the bottom of the Division two years running. There is a very good chance it will be at least three years in a row. I bet you would not bet money that Auburn basketball will have the same fate.

Unfortunately Mizzou Basketball will make this a true statement.

It is worth noting that Pearl inherited a program coming off 5 consecutive losing seasons where BB inherited a team that was competing for BCS bowls 2 years prior. Also worth noting that John L , under very difficult circumstances, won as many SEC games in 1 year as BB has in 2.
