Didn't play in a bowl game because they couldn't. Nor could they even play on TV. Because it was yet another sanctioned year on one of the most all time penalized institutions (Auburn Creed notwithstanding).
But if they want to hang that from the rafters, they can go for it.

Big difference between claiming a title when you were awarded an AP or UPI title prior to a bowl game you lost vs not even playing in a bowl game because you were banned from one due to cheating.

What about a season you finished 3rd in the conference and 20th in the nation and still claim it?
