Yeah, AU had no idea what it was getting into in Knoxville that day. Expecting to face a very mediocre team, AU was actually facing a top 5 team that was better than AU and a home underdog.

2010s = nobody has stood out as a completely dominating defense.

The 2001 Miami squad was a better overall team than 2011 Bama but the two defenses can be compared. I still think the 2001 Miami team had a better def. but you acting like the '11 Bama defense is nothing is crazy. There are for sure the best in 2010s so far.

I think 2011 Bama defense was better than 2001 Miami because 2011 Bama came into the season with a focus on being the best Bama d ever statistically and therefore kept focus even when Bama was up big.

And yeah 2001 Miami was better overall for sure. Defensively the talent was similar but bamas d really went all out for that GOAT title on d.

Your opinion is pretty worthless, brah. I'm glad we live in a nation that allows you to express such stupidity without reprimand, however.

That Bama defense smoked everyone and I'd be willing that they forced a metric frick ton more 3 and outs than the Miami squad.

I'm wondering if you have any idea. If you're listing 1992 Alabama, 2011 Alabama has to be there. Asterisk and "mulligan" aside, 2011 Alabama held opponents to 188 YPG and 8.2 PPG. That's only matched by 1988 Oklahoma over the last 25-30 seasons.

2011 Alabama - no.
2011 LSU - no.

I don't even know how to respond to this.

That 2011 Bama defense was arguably one of the top 5 defenses of all time. The LSU squad wasn't far behind.

This Nebraska guy's favorite linebacker is Brian Bosworth, who basically ended up being the most expensive "Welcome to the Endzone" doormat that Bo Jackson ever wiped his feet on. That should tell you enough about his opinions.

Obviously didn't watch him play. He is regarded as one of the top defensive players in college football history.

They don't matchup to the numbers some of the defenses that I listed.

Perhaps, perhaps not - however, each era is different anyway. Defense ruled in the earlier eras - giving up basically one score a game now is dang close to giving up about 1 point a game in the 30s-50s.

It's weird how you're always on this board (SEC rant)and usually takling smack against SEC teams but you're a Nebraska fan. Why don't you guys have some board of your own.

Let me just make sure I'm clear here. Are you saying the 2011 Alabama defense isn't one of the all-time great defenses??

I don't think any team that played them that year had any real idea but especially Auburn since that game was so early for us. Even on the week of the bowl game, the press was doing features on Miami and basically ignoring us. The bowl coverage was all Miami all the time. No one gave us a chance despite what the team had done all year and despite them finishing strong even after Robinson was injured after the 5th game. The Miami captains wouldn't even shake our captains' hands before the game. But like I said, we'd been 7-5 the year before (well 7-4-1) and had been in our longest stretch of rebuilding and it took beating Miami in the post-season for us to get any credit at all for the season we were having.

That team, the Sugar Vols, wound up being one of the most beloved teams we've ever had and still is.

I remember the 85 Tech v. Auburn game. That was our "Black Watch" defense. Aubie won 14-17. It was a defensive slugfest. Pat Swilling anchored the DL and Ted Roof was the captain back at linebacker. Some amazing defensive talent on the field, for sure.

The next week we tied the Vols 6-6.

That defense isn't an all-great level defense.

You're either stupid or a troll.

The 2011 Alabama defense was only the second defense since 1937 to lead the nation in the four major categories (scoring, passing, rushing, and total defense).

Their numbers, in case you are interested, are as follows:

183.6 yards per game
111.5 pass yards per game
72.15 rush yards per game
8.2 points per game

If that isn't an all-time worthy performance then I don't know what is. Not to mention the fact that every starter (as well as most of their back-ups) from that defense were either drafted or made NFL rosters through free agency. Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick, Dee Milliner, Dont'a Hightower, C.J. Mosley, and HaHa Clinton-Dix were all starters/contributors who ended up being drafted in the first round.

So they were talented as well as uniquely effective at stopping opposing offenses. A rare combination.

Boom.

He is a friggin' idiot who just declares his opinions to be fact, despite the mountain of contravenous information directly placed in front of him.

But nah, that 2011 Alabama defense was not elite, despite leading the nation in every major statistical category.

My grandfather always talks about how good the 1957 AU defense was. He said the fans were disappointed if the team gave up 100 yards.

1959 Ole Miss D gave up 21 total points. All year including bowl. 7 of those were on the famous Billy Cannon LSU punt return. We beat them 21-0 in thu Sugar that year.
