Saban did NOT say anyone was ahead. He said Sims is playing a little faster. He also said Coker had a great week leading up to the scrimmage. I don't care if Kiffin himself plays QB as long as the job gets done.

Good to see you burning the mIdnight oil reading up on your favorite team, anti.

FWIW, this time last year we had already lost our top WR and TE to graduation, had only one RB with experience, and although we had some decent returning talent on OL, they were coming off a season in which they had allowed 37 sacks and anchored an offense that was among the worst in the FBS. And we had just named our starting QB, a guy whose major college experience was as a backup DB and who had been on campus all of three weeks. Meanwhile we lost three starters on defense during fall camp, including our leading returning tackler. And yet, we did alright last year, albeit with some room for improvement.

I share your concern over our recent setbacks in the injury department, but I have confidence we'll manage to get 11 guys on the field on either side of the ball in a fortnight's time. And it should be noted that, save for Robinson and Mason, every single player you mentioned whose absence will be so keenly felt this year were virtually unknown and, to borrow your phrase, "unproven in SEC play" 12 months ago. Guess their rapid rise from obscurity to irreplaceability was just more of that dumb Barner luck.

In any case, just as you I look forward to another season of following Auburn football. I certainly hope you continue to enjoy watching the Tigers as much as you do thinking about them and starting threads about them.

War Eagle, my friend!

If Freep will notice I am not picking Arky in the upset. I do seriously question all the Auburn hype with all these losses. I am not saying you won't do well, I am saying there are a lot of questions.

I have known Freep for some time, he is a refugee from the old Yuku board called Saturday Tailgate.

That is the board I ran he and several other Aubies off from when their hero Tuberville failed them in the end, just like I told them he would. Instead of facing the music, they did what Barners do and skittered back into the ITAT woodwork where they could be protected from me.

Fact, Chex. They were riding high while Tubby could wave those fingers but when Bama mudholed Auburn to end his tenure at Auburn, the board Barners all bailed, including Mr Freep. They could dish it out but had no spine for taking the counterfire.

I don't worry about Auburn, so don't flatter yourself, or them.

I look on Auburn as a stepping stone to get to where we want to be, watching Saban hold up yet another trophy. Instate rival and all yes, but just a stepping stone.

Barners on the other hand, consider last season one of their all time best. They get beat in the big game and yet they are just orgasmic. Had that been Alabama I would consider it a good year with a very disappointing ending. Losing to FSU would be a bitter pill to have to swallow, and yet Barners do not seem to care.

I saw 4 to 6 losses now might be 7 or 8.

Ni bychez, youe sissy azz didn't wun anything, you just screwed up the SECs title streak the year before the playoff which will probably cost the SEC a spot in the playoff.

Auburn us a shyt, lucky team that didn't win anything

This came off as being slightly creepy. Do you have an obsession with Freep?

I never really saw the OP answered totally so I'll take a stab at it.

Kozan is being replaced by 5* Avery Young, starting RT. Young is being replaced by the guy that beat him for that spot the year previous, before having a disciplinary issue, Patrick Miller. Auburn practiced several days with this starting lineup in the Spring. Any further injuries would bring in Devonte Danzey to a guard spot...and if the injury was at tackle, Young back to tackle. Thru that scenario, Auburn is rock solid at OL...any more than one injury and things begin to get iffy.

Lawson hurts because while Auburn has very good depth and talent at each position, DE is probably the least. Some of the DT's have been cross training to get the best DL's on the field...you will see Gabe Wright play a good bit of end. Starters will be senior Ladarious Owens and Elijah Daniel. Also, the best pure pass rusher on the team might be Cassanova McKinzy...he is crosstraining there as well...and the fastest DL on the team, Rashaad Kennion probably won't redshirt for this purpose. We will be fine...but yeah, we'd be better with Lawson, no doubt.

On Therezie...this stings...because he was the perfect star...all over the field, hard hitting, instinctive playmaker...fast enough to cover WR's, strong/physical enough to stick his nose in there and really help out in the running game. This isn't a done deal because he is going thru an appeals process at this time, but doesn't look good. Here is the good news. Justin Garrett was picked to start over Therezie last year and was the defensive MVP in the Spring before getting injured. He is also a bigger guy that is going to be more active in run support than covering WR's. The first 6 teams that Auburn plays either suck or are run heavy teams...so this should work out just fine. Behind Garrett though, there is plenty of depth but all unproven...none of those guys we would want starting at this point.

Hopefully that answers your question. I think the hype comes from the fact that Auburn had a pretty good season last year, have more quality depth than perhaps ever, and return key positions. Who knows...maybe the bounce of the ball doesn't go our way this year and we end up with a couple of losses...but I think people hyping up Bama as a likely national champion have way more explaining to do than anyone optimistic about Auburn's chances.

I think losing the combination of Ford & Lawson will be the most noticeable.
