Cool work, but I don't believe that is an accurate representation of how many fans are actually located in a particular state. For example, the number of Auburn, Tennessee, and Clemson fans that live in Atlanta. Thus, a smaller population state such as Alabama or South Carolina will have an advantage in per capita numbers even though thousands of fans come from a nearby state.

i agree that it can't be considered completely accurate, but i think it's a good representation for a state like MS. The only out of state area that i can think of that holds significant numbers of Ole Miss fans would be the Memphis area. i have been saying for years that the support recieved by the MS schools was actually incredible considering our resources, especially being the poorest state in the union..

If you're trying to figure out the logic of why GA is so low I think it would have more to do with having 1 of your 2 D1 schools have a stadium that fits only 55,000 and Im sure averages less per game. And though UGAs goes to 90,000 that combined with GT puts the averages below the combined averages of SC and CU.

Besides its not like everyone that lives in this state are just SC and CU fans. Plenty of other SECers.

Yes which I looked up the #s just for that post but forgot to put it in there.

Have a little under twice as many people in GA as there are in SC.

I still don't understand the Nebraska thing. They're the only D1 team in that state right? Even if they sold out every game how would 80,000-90,000 people per week make their ratio so high?

Ill take the actual attendance over ratio attendance.

Well then you're understanding of statistics and their significance is poor.

These "rankings" mean absolutely nothing. The less populated states are obviously going to be on top of the list.

Um, I know you are from MS but damn. So FL doesn't love football as much as Utah does????

Sorry, but the stats in the original post doesn't really mean anything. A stadium can only hold so many people. so those stats will make the least populated states look better than the most populated states. It's a flawed comparison and doesnt need to be mentioned

Exactly, the logic is 100% flawed

Bit of a skewed stat since states and stadiums vary in size greatly.

"Look better?" Define "better?" I completely understand how smaller states will have higher percentages of stadium attendees. That doesn't make the information any less interesting.

Also, I doubt this takes into account tailgating. I assure you there are many people on LSU'S campus there for the tailgating and then head to a bar or someones house to watch the game. This doesnt tell me at all who loves football to be honest.

I'm not the one saying that these stats "tell...who loves football." I just said they're interesting. I'm a numbers/stats type of guy and stuff like this is neat to me.

Adding in the tailgaters that do not attend the game would make Mississippi #1.
