it seems unfair that a school with several million donors, many of whom are not even alumni of the institution, can buy championships.

That's the thing though, you can't buy championships.

If you could the Longhorns would win every year.

Hell you can't even buy Championships in Major League Baseball.

"Spend most of your time playing this sport, and I'll make loads of profit and pay all the food you want, a small stipend, a nice place to live right next to tons of young women, and a free education."

"Spend all of your time all day picking cotton, and I'll give you enough food to live, a shack, ensure you can never be educated, and if you even look like you might be eyeing one of our women, we'll whip you and hang you."

Yes, I see the similarities.

Ironic post. As we debate this topic, the Miami Heat are in the very ceremony of accepting the trophy that they effectively bought three years ago.

Nevermind that all athletes are given the same deal, regardless of sport or race.

If you want to say it's a bad system for the players that's fine and I will probably agree with you but there's just no way you can legitimately spin this as racial oppression. I mean you just can't.

LeBron James and Chris Bosh took less money than they could have gotten elsewhere to go to Miami.

Yeah, Drac, I'm not arguing the logic...it's just sort of ironic.

Sure, you can't "buy" championships per se, but you can buy the best coaches. The best coaches then coach the best teams. If one uses the UT example, the UT admin could go out and pay the best coach, but instead choose to pay their incapacitated coach. The point is the school has the resource to do so.

Additionally, salary caps would even the playing field enough to allow the lower budget schools to compete more often (sure there's exceptions, i.e. Boise State). However, if you want to win a national championship just pay Nick Saban a ridiculous amount of money and you'll likely do it - not because he gives two shits about Alabama (because you know he doesn't) - but because of the money.

Furthermore, one might attempt to lecture me on capitalism ect. but the point is Saban, Miles, and others are just playing you and your Wal-Mart fans for a fool. It's time we even the playing field so the La Tech's can consistently compete with the LSU's of the world.

Finally, the additional revenue over a certain cap should go to players who fit under a certain family household income range. Therefore, the african-american kids at least have some type of fighting chance.

Making the playing field level for the La Tech's is not really a goal of mine.

Let me know how it all works out.

again you're dramatically oversimplifying

#1 Why is this important? Do you really want to see a Kent State-UAB National Title game? Do you think America wants to see such a game?

#2 I would argue that the schools with the most fans and biggest stadiums deserve that success more because they have more people that care about those schools.

#3 Things have been done, like scholarship limits, to help lower level schools become more competitive.

Nick Saban would not leave Alabama for any other college job, regardless of money offered. MAYBE he would take another crack at the NFL but that's more about ego not cash.

No, I want to see an Ole Miss/Mississippi State national championship game. I want to see teams fight it out because of love of game/loyalty to their state.
To answer the second part of your question: I don't give a shite what America wants to watch or I would tune into "Honey Boo Boo Child", "Jersey Shore", that **** show called "Caged" or "American Idol".

frick your argument. Just because you have more tattoos and t-shirt fans (that flock to wal-mart to purchase gameday gear) doesn't mean your team "deserve[s]" more success.

Yeah, well it's obviously not good enough or Oregon wouldn't beat the shite of every PAC-10 team consistently.

Well both Ole Miss and Mississippi State are "haves" in your scenario just by being a member of the SEC.

Actually that's exactly what it means

Do you want everyone to go 6-6 every year? Sounds terrible.
