The junior defensive end has elected to transfer in an effort for more playing time, Georgia announced on Friday. Lott played in just five games during his Bulldog career, recording 10 tackles, including 1.5 for loss.

Lott was slowed by a leg injury incurred in a scooter accident, and ended up playing in just two games.

This spring Lott was hoping to take advantage of the graduation of DeAngelo Tyson, one of only two starters leaving the team. But he was still behind Garrison Smith, who started when Tyson got hurt last year, and this spring Cornelius Washington and Ray Drew were getting snaps at end.

"Derrick and I met and he believes he will have opportunities for more playing time elsewhere," head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. "We support him and will assist in any way possible during this process."

I really don't understand why he is doing this. He was a good player and would have gotten playing time at both NT and DE.

Does this count as Processing?

Or is a player transferring from other schools just an indication that he is actually looking for more playing time?

frick no. Lott was nowhere near the bottom of the depth chart and would have played ALOT this year.

that's the thing that annoys me, he would have gotten plenty at UGA.

It's almost like 08 all over again, just without the injuries.

perhaps this has something to do with cornelius washington and ray drew moving down to the DL recently. richt even said in a presser the other day that washington was the most impressive in practice thus far, maybe lott didn't like that?

he only played in 5 games like the article said, who knows

ETA: dude, who said last year was our year?

2008 Georgia, at the end of the year, was one of the best teams I've ever seen. This team could've been close, but now look at all these suspensions.

I think we need Washington too badly at LB to leave him at DE. Anyone else agree?

since the East was so weak. With Fla./Tenn. sucking it was supposed to be the perfect chance for UGA to have a good year.

at the end of the year 2008 UGA was struggling to beat UK by 4, losing to GT at home by a tune of 400+ yards, and looked flaccid vs MSU

Just making sure.

I'd be kind of upset if people started catching on to the whole Processing thing. You guys are behind the times. When your 3rd stringers start transferring because of lack of PT, but fans of other teams say he really transferred because your HC told him to leave, you know you have hit the big time.

if the new guys can step up i see no issue. CW is an athelte and can be a monster at the pass. i doubt he'd be in too much on early downs though

a pass rush with jones and someone else at OLB and drew and CW at DT would be great

they are talking national title i think, last year UGA essentially met it's expectations, as worthless as it felt

ETA: haha i knew i read something wrong
