Well he trusted this other kid with a 57 yarder. If Saban felt that Foster's confidence was shot, he should have used the backup for the much shorter kick instead of going for it. I said it at the time, does Bama not have a backup kicker?

I'm willing to bet Trestman had some players on the field who run a sub 5 sec 40 yard dash.

Saban didn't.

Dumb.

Use Griffith if you have no faith in Foster. Why trust a kid to make a 57 yarder but not a 30 yarder?

Foster can't kick it 57 yards. Griffith has done it in practice.

Has Griffith not made a field goal from 35 yards in practice? I would guess that if he can make a 57 yard field goal, he could make a 35 yard field goal.

I see your point. I'm just saying Griffith was a club Saban had in the bag and chose to use it on the last play.

If Bama makes either the field goal of the 4th down play, he's the genius once again.

It wasn't the kick. The only issue was having a bunch of lineman against a bunch of skill guys on the return.

Saban's decision was absolutely proper.

This. The problem was personnel and/or coverage after the kick. On replay you can clearly see a lack of coverage to the kicker's right side.

Did JD Roberts blunder when he sent in Tom Dempsey to attempt a 63 yarder to defeat the Lions?

Obviously Dempsey and this Griffith kid are equally talented.
