There is so much fail in this OP.
"John" The article you linked even says Jake.
He was in Alabama 1 year, he didn't flunk there. He didn't flunk a grade at all for that matter. His dad/coach reclassed him 1 year in SC.
Will Grier, Davidson Day QB who went to Florida. RECLASSED TWICE. He turned 21 his Fr year at Florida. So there's the hypocrite angle as well.

Your coach's last 4 years as coach, his stats were:
2011: Offense ranked #71 (7-6 record)
2012: Offense ranked #78 (11-2 record)
2013: Offense ranked #113 (4-8 record)
2014: Offense ranked #72 (7-5 record)
The only thing preventing some of those from all being losing records was his ability to recruit defensive players and coach em up. He won't bring in near the talent to South Carolina since, let's face it, YOU ARE SOUTH frickING CAROLINA.

I am confused as to what is going on with this kid.

So like he got held back in middle school and made up all the credits in high school?

It's becoming more of a common thing - especially for athletically gifted students, but even for non-athletic students - that parents are holding their kids back a year later than typical, to give the kids an extra year of growth and development. In Bentley's case, his parents held him back and reclassified him before his father ever took the job at Auburn, and before Jake ever moved to Alabama.
Still, when we're talking about education and intelligence levels, it's humorously ironic that the Florida Gator fan would equate academic issues with a prospect that looks able to graduate from high school a full year earlier than most kids typically do....
