I think the cops would have let this slide, but you have a marine and a guy with a broken neck/back involved who want to press charges. The cops didn't have much of a choice once the media got involved.

I think the military element of this story is irrelevant to me. I will be honest I have read very little of the events. Why is one of the alleged victims being a Marine an issue?

Good luck getting a conviction. No way in hell they get convicted if they have a semi competent attorney. Of course, they will probably take a plea to a lesser charge and get community service and probation. Personally, I would take it to a grand jury, but that's just me.

Reports are that the marine was stalking a girl in the bar, was kicked out, and actually threw the first punch that started this mess. Whether all that is true, I don't know. It still doesn't defend Jefferson's actions, but it does not appear the marine is some innocent bystander.

I don't think it matters why he was at the bar though. If he threw the first punch then the charges should be reduced imo, but he still kicked a guy that was down on the ground.
