2 interesting things of note here

1. Georgia has a chance to do the same this year

2. That's three more recent ones than the Corps of Cadets

I was drinking one time and talking-to Pepsodent Paul (Paul Dietzel) .... he never drank.

One of the greatest men I have ever known. We were prepping him on a Friday night for him to be on my Gameday show the following Saturday morning. I was his waterboy as a kid ... absolutely loved Coach.

That night ... we were talking about the Chinese Bandits and etc and why he left LSU and went to Army .... and he loved the job at Army btw ... but he was fired from there. And I was drinking, which sort of deadened by filter and I asked, "Coach ... forgive me for asking, but why were you fired by Army?" (SC hired him immediately and it was the best hire we ever made because he almost single handedly was responsible for SC getting into the SEC.)

He said, "Because I couldn't beat Navy." (And he sorta laughed.)

Then he said, "... they had this quarterback named Roger Staubach."

I said, "Coach, can we use that live on the show tomorrow?"

I had more old timers approach me about that show that afternoon on the way to the stadium ....

People just do not understand how big both Army and Navy were back then. We were having a discussion the other day, on this board, about the 60s and polling and Bama being screwed in '66 ... anyways ...

Anyways, it's just another story. Take it fwiw.

I'm reminiscing. I'm drinking. Whatever.

My eyes watered-up at that man's funeral. I'm sitting here looking at an oil painting of his old gamecock logo he gave to me.

I must be getting close to dying or some bullshite. Too much thinking-back. Everything is a trigger.

1945 National Champion Army: 9-0

1945 Alabama: 10-0

Using rival fan logic, Alabama is the true champions of 1945 cuz we haz de better record.
