He runs an offense that only elite programs can run successfully in the SEC, and Arkansas has no where near the recruiting prestige to run it

He'll build that team as a pro style, and be fired, leaving the new HUNH coach with nothing to win with.. rinse, wash, repeat.

He's not that bad of a coach, but considering the program he's working with..he has no chance to succeed.

That he occasionally instilled a little fear in the bottom half of the Big10 conference years ago?

He'll be fired after 3, maybe 4 years.

He has the ability to make arky desperate enough to hire Petrino back.

Whether he gets fired or not, he was a good hire on paper, which is all I could ask for.

He has plenty of upside - and I'm pretty excited about the future, but all the hate he's brought on himself is deserved. He fared slightly better than Stoops and slightly worse than Butch. No one's laughing at Kentucky or Tennessee, because their coaches inherited 2-10 and 5-7 teams and acted like they inherited 2-10 and 5-7 teams. Bret came in and dared everyone to vote us last in the West and then went on to fail in a miserable, embarrassing, literally record-breaking fashion.

The team he took over was in terrible shape - way worse than we thought. The stats our players put up at the combine (the few who went) were dismal. The good thing is he's laying a good foundation instead of just recruiting a lot of skill players, and I suspect we'll start looking like a real football team for the '15 season.

I do miss Petrino, but we're not Louisville. He reminded us after a decade of Nuttball that it was possible to actually win here. A lot of people don't remember that Arkansas was in dynasty mode pre-'90s. But at the same time, his good years depended on an abnormal upswing of in-state receiver and QB talent, and I'm not sure his cursory attention to defense was going to keep us in the hunt each year. His recruiting abilities were definitely not good enough to go out and get what we needed offensively when our state failed to produce an adequate amount.

I think we'll be alright with Bret. He's going to get us laughed to death for a couple of years for being an idiot, but we're all used to that after JLS.

I guess a team full of 4 and 5* OL with a 5* RB isn't good enough to run the ball successfully

Several of the OL we got had offers from Alabama...Jovon Pruitt, Brian Wallace...but nope, since they chose arkansas we won't be able to work it out

Too bad we havent had a RB rush for over 1,800 yards using that style before

Well, we need to at least have the "threat" of a pass game. 4 and 5* OL and RB don't mean shite when they know you can't pass and stack the box.

Well yeah but that has nothing to do with the offensive style. LSU under Jefferson had a very good run game and no threat of a pass but they recruit a ton better than us

Just think that's a stupid argument

I agree Gohogs. Just saying teams that succeed with this style of offense have the ability to keep the defense honest with the pass game so they can't stack the box. This is more on our ineptitude at QB last year than the offensive style. Like any program, a coach can only work with what he's got. A decent (not even good, just DECENT) QB and we would've won at least 3 more games last year.

We'll be OK with Brett. It looks to me the Rebels are still about the same. Huge Froze will recruit but people say he just has to stir trouble in the stands with his own fanbase.

The problem is JLS wasn't the third highest paid coach in the country.

Overlooking the fact that that's an exaggeration, JLS also had zero potential and was going nowhere. We're kind of putting eggs in a basket with Bret and we have reason to hope.
