like Pel did a few years ago?

Pel never received an invite to a tourney after Heath's players completed their eligibility his first season.

Actually Dale, we did turn down the NIT when he was here.

And for the historians on this board. Arkansas has been invited to the post season 32 times.

Only 2 times have we accepted an NIT invitation. Finished 4th in 1997 and bounced in the 2nd round in 1987.

Why any coach would pass up the chance to get his team more games, and experience playing in a post season tourney is beyond me.

Only to try to humor the 'tough guy brigade'. No AD would turn down the Liberty Bowl or Music City Bowl. Turning down the NIT is silly.

*oddly enough there was a time in the late 1960's and until 1970 AFTER the NCAA tournament had surpassed the NIT in terms of prestige that some teams would turn down the NCAA in favor of the NIT. NCAA put a stop to that after the 1969-1970 season.

No, that was Stan Heath who turned down the invite in 2005.

LINK

The only year Pel's team qualified for post season play was 2008, his first year which we went to the NCAAs, and 2011 in which no NIT invite was extended.

14-18 does not get you a NIT invite...

In 2007, Pelphrey was tabbed to lead the Arkansas program and responded by leading the team to 23 wins in 2007-08, the best total by a first-year coach in the school’s history, while advancing to the SEC Tournament final and into the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks’ win against No. 24 Indiana in the big dance was their first since 1999. That squad finished with a 23-12 record and reached as high as No. 18 in the national polls and posted a 6-2 record against ranked opponents. Those 23 wins were the most at Arkansas since 1999. Though Pelphrey will not be on the Arkansas bench this season, he was instrumental in assembling the Razorbacks’ 2011 recruiting class that rates in the top five nationally.

I remember thinking Pelphrey was going to be really good after that season. Boy were we ever wrong.

No, you weren't wrong. He just needed a couple of more years to bring home the hardware. He was about to turn the corner. I'm glad you fired him though. He's doing well on the bench and really helped with our game against some team north of Louisiana. I can't remember which team but it was a good game plan Pel came up with.

No, if anything the mistake was firing Stan Heath who could recruit and coach his teams to consistent NCAA births. He is repeating the process at USF. He is mediocre overall in the big picture, similar to Stans at Ms. State, we deserve better and received as such the second time around in the coaching search.

Why the faith in Anderson? I'm not fully aware of his accomplishments but did he do well at UAB and Mizz?

Is it because he's an Arky guy and fans just wanting him to succeed or did he really tear it up at his previous stops. I honestly have no clue about him.

were you still working at the Chuck E Cheese in Vestavia Hills when he was at UAB ?

I have to admit, when UAB replaced Little Murry with Anderson I thought it was a mistake. Anderson did a great job at UAB while Mike Davis just sits around moaning.

I think in time Anderson will turn Arkansas around. May be later than sooner, but it'll happen.

It wasn't so much his coaching that was the problem here in my opinion but his lack of any sort of ability to keep a team together. Our roster was like a revolving door the entire time he was here. It was absolutely amazing to see the amount of turnover that we had in his 4 short years.

Heath was known as an assistant for Izzo and using a TE to take kent state to the elite 8 in his only season there.

Pel was known as being an assistant for Donovon, and getting USA to the NCAA and NIT once while not having a program in good standing with the APR and losing scholarships and practice time as a result of his five seasons there.

Mike Anderson is known for 6 NCAA appearances, 1 NIT, UAB to the sweet 16 and Mizzou to the elite 8 in 9 seasons as being head coach.

Good memory and ISWYDT.

I was not in AL during his tenure at UAB I don't believe. I left AL in 2001.

It was close to 30 players in 4 years that he signed who were no longer on the roster when Mike was hired...

Not to mention when he had to rely on freshmen, he went 14-16 and 2-14...
