It is. My meaning is that everybody says the same thing when they first visit Fayetteville.
They say its a great town, and way more than they expected.

I like Fayetteville, but it's not the center of culture like some Hog fans like to suggest. You'd think with all these advantages from the city, affordable flights from major western cities, and an offensive guru, that Arkansas would recruit at a higher level. But maybe that's just me.

It's not our fault Rivals hates us.

For a town of 70k, its about as cultured as it gets without being some exclusive suburb or coastal city.
Its not Dallas or Atlanta, but for its size, its got a lot going on.

And not solely because its a college town. The WAC and associated venues, the Underground arts collective. Hell, on a given night on Dickson you'll find at least a half dozen street musicians/performers within two blocks. There are lots of songwriters, musicians and artists in Fayetteville. Its definitely not overrated.

Everybody says the same stuff about Fayetteville if they've never been to Arkansas. A buddy of mine from Boulder visited a few weeks back and kept going on and on..."I had no idea this was here, etc beautiful place, etc."
Petrino always says he thinks he has a chance if he gets to show players the campus and Fayetteville. He's often out in town somewhere on Dickson or the Square eating. I'm pretty sure he makes a point for recruits to see the town and all it has to offer.
I brought back some friends of mine, who are Jewish, and they had a blast even though we lost to Ole Miss in 09'.
They've been calling the past 2 years.. "Is Arkansas ranked again this year, what game can we fly in for with you", ha.
Fayetteville is without a doubt a hidden gem.
Well not to mention the amount of money that has been raised makes the campus not look like anything even from 2001.
It's not the same Arkansas I even went to!

Mind-set.
It takes a while to change the culture that made excuses for a decade without having a young AD to bring us into the 21st century.
Frank B. is Arkansas Athletics but it was time for him to go. Jeff Long has brought us into the 21st century of recruiting, marketing and raising money to compete.
Cap Look at these numbers alone..
1998 - 2 Lane Highway to Fayetteville, you literally could fall off the mountain and die.
2010 - 4 lane highway with talks of expansion.
1998 - NWA Airport Passengers: 53,000
2010 - NWA Airport Passengers: 1,300,000
NWA Metro Population 2000: 345,000
NWA Metro Population 2010: 465,000
UArk Student Body 2001: 16,000
UArk Student Body 2010: 23,400
Facilities are being built, coach 3rd highest paid in the SEC, united Fan Base, Money pouring in, new alumni and recruiting pipelines are reopening. The excuses are now out the window.
Recruits from Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas are in this years class. It's been since Frank B. we've had that region of players.
It takes time to build a system, which is exactly what Petrino is doing. The commitment has been executed on both parties.

I know one of the architects on that project.

When I took the trip up to Fayetteville for the Ole Miss game in 2006, I fell in love with that area. Very nice from Fayetteville all the way up to Rogers (as far as I went)

Any fun facts we should know of the project?
I'm planning on going home for the Tennessee game and visiting Crystal Bridges on the opening the night before. (11-12 Nov.)
I'll already be in Tuscaloosa for the Hog game this year.

I personally liked oxford, the trips I've taken. I however feel it hasn't changed much as for the city, not campus, each time I visit.

I'm glad they haven't changed Oxford up. I like the old look it has. But I like that historic looking stuff.

Can you not keep it historic in certain areas and build outward?

There is really no reason extend right now. Though if they did change anything...I would want them to build more roads around town. Ole Miss is steadily growing, which means more traffic. The roads are way congested. Especially on Old Taylor Road. They need to 4 lane that or something. Towards the end of my senior year, i was hating that road.

Well sure, but do you think the WAC, Underground whatever you call it, or musicians would be there if it weren't for the more academic univeristy environment and the type of people that attracts?
Fayetteville and Oxford would be blips on the radar if it weren't for the universities. Oxford would just be another Batesville or Pontotoc if Ole Miss weren't there. But, because the university is there, we are able to attract the intelligent, artsy crowd as well as the small-town entrepreneurs that make any college towns great.

They have built outward.
The square and everything immediately around it hasn't changed much, but the stuff along Highway's 6 and 7, down Jackson Ave, and out on College Hill have all changed a lot over the past five or six years.

Sounds like he enjoyed his trip South. Even with the 100+ degree temps. Still going to be hard to pull him out of Big 10(?) country.
