Arkansas don't hire old washed up big name coaches.....

We make coaches into big names.

Remember this time last year most LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas fans were blissfully ignorant of Rob Smith.

Now he shocks you awake every other night from your sweat drenched nightmare.

See how it works?

I was blown away by the hire personally...incredible! So I went to look at the numbers

Total Offense

2014: 67th, 398.1 YPG
2013: 110th, 332.4 YPG
2012: 69th, 385.2 YPG
2011: 42nd, 402.1 YPG
2010: 53rd, 387.5 YPG

Scoring Offense

2014: 79th, 26.9 PPG
2013: 94th, 23.2 PPG
2012: 60th, 28.1 PPG
2011: 88th, 22.7 PPG
2010: 82nd, 23.6 PPG

Rushing Offense

2014: 74th, 155.2 YPG
2013: 93rd, 135.4 YPG
2012: 88th, 136.2 YPG
2011: 94th, 118.3 YPG
2010: 110th, 101.2 YPG

Passing Offense

2014: 52nd, 242.8 YPG
2013: 96th, 197 YPG
2012: 48th, 249.1 YPG
2011: 22nd, 283.8 YPG
2010: 15th, 286.2 YPG

So maybe they played some tough games? That's why the numbers are so meh

Strength of Schedule

2014: 100th
2013: 125th (last)
2012: 119th
2011: 98th
2010: 95th

Oh

Maybe he's a good recruiter?

2015: no commits over a 2 star
2014: no signees over a 2 star
2013: 5 three stars. Beat out Toledo for almost every one! All others 2 stars or NR
2012: 5 three stars! All others 2 stars or NR
2011: 4 three stars! All others 2 stars or NR
2010 (CMU): 3 three stars! All others 2 stars or NR

NFL.com article before the season

quote:

CMU was flying high when Enos took over; it now is a mid-level MAC program. The Chippewas generally have beaten the bad MAC teams, but not good or even mediocre conference foes. That needs to change. But CMU on paper looks to be no better than fourth in the six-team MAC West this season, and that might not be enough for Enos to remain on the job.

hmm

2012, Athlon ranks him the 3rd worst coach in college football

top rated comment on the /r/cfb post about Enos taking the Arky job from a CMU fan

quote:

As a CMU fan, you can have him. We went from having Brian Kelly and then Butch Jones and scoring points and winning games, to this dude. In Butch Jones' last year (2009), we were ranked 24th in the nation. The next year we went 3-9. He has never had a season two games above .500.
CMU might seem like a small little program to a lot of you, but for most alumni we recently (to us it seems recently) had a team ranked in the top 25. We have two All-pro alums in the NFL with Antonio Brown and Joe Staley. We even had the number one pick in the draft two years ago with Eric Fisher. Nearly every CMU football fan I know is rejoicing on Facebook right now.
Best of luck to the Hogs, but screw Enos.

more from CMU fans

quote:

He took a team that won their conference in 2009 and pulled a sizeable upset on the 2009 Spartans and ended the season ranked #25 in the AP poll to back to back 3-9 seasons.
My best friend played for him for a few years. His biggest complaint was Enos is too even-keeled and calm for a head coach. "Sometimes you just need to get yelled at," was his comment after his senior game.
Maybe it'll be a RichRod situation where Enos just REALLY didn't work with CMU and he'll go on to be a prolific offensive coordinator. If you want to believe that...I hope you didn't watch the Bahamas Bowl

Arky fan asks how they should feel about this, CMU fan responds

quote:

I'm elated so you probably shouldn't be.

quote:

Elated isn't an understatement. I saw this on Twitter first and literally jumped up and pumped my fist. I have been hoping he got fired since the 2011 season. I knew post-Lefevour would be rough, but Enos didn't help that transition at all.
I honestly figured he might just be out of coaching...the prospect of him moving elsewhere didn't even cross my mind.

A tremendous amount of angst, wailing and gnashing of teeth in this thread. It's a beautiful thing to read these posts, the fear and trembling bleeding through with every keystroke. Bert is building a dynasty, brick by brick, solid coach after solid coach. On the rise.

He doesn't run a hurry up offense, he runs a balanced, slow down the game offense.... The same as Bielema's offense. These offenses will never put up 500-600 yards a game.

As for his recruiting, ITS CENTRAL MICHIGAN. How many 4 and 5 stars do you think he could get to CENTRAL MICHIGAN? Hell 3 stars usually have better options. Besides when he was at Michigan State in 2009, he was voted a top 25 recruiter and signed 6- 4 stars.

As for the fans who think they are better off..... They had a few years of success under Butch Jones and think they are better than they are. They went to 2 bowl games in the last 3 years. They should be happy with that.....

The Arkie reaction to Enos is amazing to me. Central Michigan has had a consistently bad offense (and has been a bad team), and they are rejoicing over the hire. Better programs would be melting right now.

As for Smith, A&M passed. But you can lie to yourself, if you want.

Once again, an Aggy Rantard comes through with his ignorant opinions based on zero knowledge of what it is he types. You all never disappoint. ... As for Central Michigan having a "consistently bad offense," you couldn't be more wrong, expectedly. Their extremely talented offense, thanks to Enos's awesome ability to recruit & led by his outstanding QB, was incredibly productive, scoring enough points in games to have won the great majority of them, easily & by a wide margin. Their defense is what sucked with their less than stellar talent, and holes big enough to drive a semi through. Their D is what lost them games, as anyone who can use Google knows. Enos's very solid offense is what kept his job as HC for CMU.

Enos is a proven extremely talented & knowledgable offensive coach, an incredibly good recruiter, with a propensity for coaching QBs, & it helps that he was one. Offensive gurus, many times, are not great HCs since they're concentrated on one side of the ball. That's what smart HCs look for in an OC, and that's what CBB hired. We don't need Enos to be a great HC; we've already got one ...

And with the addition of our DC phenom & our new expert OC hire, we're gold, and evidently scare the shite out of you, hence, your mini-melt about our hiring Enos. That's ok, just continue "lying to yourself" though. Maybe it'll calm you down & lessen your fears.

ITS CENTRAL MICHIGAN. How many 4 and 5 stars do you think he could get to CENTRAL MICHIGAN?

It does play into it. Central Michigan has made a habit of developing lower ranked players.

J.J. Watt (2-star) signed with Central Michigan (and Butch Jones) in '07, and transferred to Wisconsin. He became a first round pick with the Texans.

Eric Fisher (2-star) signed with Central Michigan (and Butch Jones) in '09. Became a first round pick with the Chiefs.

Here is a rundown of Central Michigan Recruiting class rankings:

'03 - (Mike DeBord) - #85
'04 - (Brian Kelly) - #89
'05 - (Brian Kelly) - #92
'06 (Brian Kelly) - #99
'07 - (Butch Jones) - #117
'08 - (Butch Jones) - #79
'09 - (Butch Jones) - #68
'10 - (Dan Enos) -#101
'11 - (Dan Enos) - #76
'12 - (Dan Enos) - #75
'13 - (Dan Enos) - #76
'14 - (Dan Enos) - #113

Enos wasn't a great recruiter, but most of his classes fell about where the prior 3 coaches classes were ranked.
