I certainly understand Arkansas fans' frustration, but I think I understand what Long is trying to say here. The way I interpret it is that Arkansas doesn't want to go the route of Baylor or Ole Miss--programs that got really good really fast by, we now know, cutting serious ethical corners. Those programs are now at or headed to dumpster-fire status, as their transgressions have caught up with them. Bielema may not be the long-term answer in Fayetteville, but at least no one has alleged that he is an Art Briles or Hugh Freeze.

Everyone wants their team to be a winner. But, I'd hate to be going through what Ole Miss fans are facing. The SEC is comprised of 14 top college sports programs. Attracting the best talent to your program is a big task, and some obviously do a better job. But, its not an easy fix.

That's exactly what he's saying. Folks are seriously melting down over nothing.

People are, understandably, pissed off over Bert's lack of results. Hell, I am too.

It sure does look tempting to go "win at any cost!"

That is when you get programs like Baylor. Or Penn State. Its when you get the prolonged agony that Ole Miss is going through right now. Don't kid yourself that "Oh, we will be win at all costs, but you know, not those costs". That is what win at all costs looks like.

If you want to win so very badly that you are willing to turn a blind eye to that... well then you need a new fricking hobby that isn't destroying your soul.

Coaching salaries, stadium improvement, facility upgrades? Jeff Long is pouring money like water into those.

If Bert doesn't turn things around this season then hell yes, fire his fat arse. There is no shortage of coaches out there willing to build a program up the right way. Hire one of them.

If Long doesn't pull the trigger and continues to fiddle and fart around then we get rid of him.

Auburn tried (sneakily) to hire Petrino, iirc. Just sayin'.

Absolutely, and completely irrelevant. Is Auburn giving statements about how winning isn't of utmost importance to us?

I'd shoot myself before I'll ever be like Henry Jones (?) still spouting that it was worth it - all because they beat Bama twice? They still sucked and now they're staring into the eyes of NCAA's hammer. Uhh, no thanks. To me, his idea of it being worth it is the true narrow minded, ignorant as hell, insecure and self hating view, imo.

Exactly. Fire Bert if he doesn't produce this year and good riddance to him. We will eat the buyout clause. Compete hard but don't turn yourself into the next ESPN 30 for 30.

Also, it doesn't seem like Petrino was considered a pos when Arky hired him. The way he left Atl to go there was kind of the first sign. And Arky did can him after his big fu there.

To be fair. I knew he was a POS long before Arkansas hired him.

Is this what you call a golden parachute? Is this not paid mainly by private donations? If not, whoa, that's a lot of money from you peons for someone doing absolutely nothing.

Bama's the only "win at all costs" team in this conference right now if we're being honest.

Long was too nice

Here's how I would put it

If Jeffrey dahmer was a five star defensive tackle Alabama would take him in and provide him with a few young Asian boys to keep him happy

After football goes away in the not so distant future Alabama will be a nothing school that provides nothing for nobody

We don't want to be like that

Jeff was so concerned about the cost of winning that invested $15.4 million in losing.

Not a win at all cost program? If you are then you don't worry about academics?

What about the multi-million dollar expansion of the stadium that is under construction? An expansion that does not justify the cost but is only being done to try and keep up with the Jonses.
