I've been to the Arkansas campus plenty of times. Where the frick are y'all finding place for all this crap?
are y'all just demolishing old buildings and putting up new ones? I cant remember the campus having that much extra space.

That's not accurate at all. Ole Miss' shite heap basketball arena, for example, is not as good or better than Bud Walton.

I don't understand why they're not more aware of what they had with Petrino. The guy is like the world champion of play calling. He really is that good.

You won't find a single hog fan that would disagree with that. We know he was an offensive genius.

They want to lambast him for not recruiting well, but neither is Bert.

This couldn't be further from the truth. Bert's classes have been much better thus far, IMO. But what really sets him apart is player retention. Petrino's classes would have a handful of guys not make it to campus or they'd not make it over a year in the program. Look at our junior and senior classes and you'll see there aren't a ton of guys left and some of them are recent JUCO transfers.

Bert's star ratings have been pretty good and this year's class looks like it'll be really quite good for us. But the best part about it is the fact that he's getting better kids than Petrino did. Less grade risks, less character risks.

What he's doing is establishing a 5 yr program where almost everyone will redshirt. That doesn't sound like much to lots of people, because they're used to that. But Arkansas has always failed to keep deep classes together for 4-5 years. But he's redshirted more guys in 2 years (expected) than Petrino ever did. Having more 4th yr juniors and 5th yr seniors will make up for some of the talent discrepancies Arkansas will always face in this conference.

quote:

Their strategy should be to find a coach who just coaches the daylights out of everyone else around... like Petrino.

Petrino never emphasized defense. The best athletes were always placed on offense. I don't think that's bad, but you can't ALWAYS put the best talent on offense. Bert is way more balanced in terms of where he's situating the talent on both sides of the ball, IMO.

If Bert doesn't turn this ship around in another year or two, I'd be fine with going back to a more wide-open offense. But there's no telling what Bert will be able to do given enough time. The people writing him off after last season are showing their shortsightedness more than anything. It takes way, way longer to rebuild a program from the depths Petrino left it in.

The difference between Petrino and CBB's recruiting is the bottom 12-15 in the class, both were/are getting the "points guys" in the rankings in the top 10 or so.

With Petrino's classes these bottom guys would fail to make to campus, show up for one practice and quit, or never see the field and transfer.

CBB is redshirting these guys as most are useless positions like linemen, LBs, and secondary players.

The biggest difference in recruiting will be if Bert can hit the acceptable attrition rate of less than 15% over a four year period, Petrino's recruiting classes had an attrition rate over 40%.

Most of the facilities are being placed where parking lots or vacant space was, the elimination of the parking lots creates another problem.

There is still land around the south side of campus the university could acquire (if it doesn't already own) as well.

Yes and no...The student athletic center is currently going up behind the outdoor track center, there was some land they are using, we put some stuff under ground into the hills to help get more stuff in.

Basketball facility is going in the same general area. You should see campus, they are basically demolishing old buildings and building new ones, putting several floor underground and into the hills, it's pretty cool how they do it.

Wouldn't that mean you continually had a roster of 51 players yearly?

That can't be right.

How much worse would Arkansas' recruiting be if we DIDN'T have such good facilities?

No home-grown talent in a small state

I don't really agree with the first part of this in terms of quality. Arkansas usually has very good and under-rated talent, usually the only busts are the ones that are from rich areas that get a lot of publicity (sorry Aubies). I can name quite a few NFL players off the top if my head from Arkansas that were 3* and below just in the past 5-10 years.

The second part about a small state is true and is the killer. We just don't have the quantity of SEC athletes on a yearly basis to fill out team like Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama.

We were pretty low last season.

In Petrino's last 3 classes, 26 are no longer here

Implying your facilities were better than ours to begin with.
