Because a loud part of our fan base are idiots. They said we had to fire him due to the lawsuits created - of which there wasn’t a single one - by what he did.

[Chris Low] (@ClowESPN) on X. Bobby Petrino has agreed to return to @RazorbackFB as offensive coordinator and a deal is being finalized, sources tell ESPN. Petrino won 10 games in 2010 and 11 in 2011 as the Hogs’ head coach, but was fired following the motorcycle accident scandal.

You have to fire a man not smart enough to come up with a plausible lie in that scenario.
Should have been as easy as "we work together,and we're friends. She'd never been on a motorcycle before so I gave her a ride."
Nobody has to truly believe it. It just needs to be plausible enough for the folks who matter to pretend to believe it.
Presumably he's older, wiser, and a better liar now. Give him his money and win some games.
