quote:Our football team reached it's height in the early 90's. Basketball was best under Gillespie. And baseball looks promising but the height was around the same time as football. We haven't really been relevant in men's sports pretty much ever if you are counting championships. The football team was great under Sherrill and the early RC years.
Make all the jokes you want, but aggie sports have never reached greater heights than where they are right now.

Texas A&M Yell Leaders lead yells. They don't lead "cheers", they lead yells. They have been called yell leaders for over a 100 years. A&M has never had cheerleaders, ever. Not sure why that is so hard for most of you to understand. They don't have pom-poms. They don't have megaphones. They don't hold up signs. They don't throw each other up in the air. They don't play with some stupid mascot in some stupid costume. They don't do dance routines. They don't make human pyramids, etc. They start and lead yells for what is known as the loudest student section at any home football game in the country.
Google yell leaders and see what you get.

When people want to know where the cheerleaders are during Aggie games, they quickly learn Aggies don't cheer — they yell. Yell Leaders are a team of upperclassmen — three seniors and two juniors — elected each year by the student body.
The job of Yell Leaders is to entertain and energize the crowd at all Texas A&M football games, as well as other events. They do this by leading Aggie fans in yells, such as Farmers Fight and Old Army, accompanied by hand signals. Yell Leaders are also known to be role models of the Aggie Spirit for current students and embody the spirit of the 12th Man.
quote:
Cheerleading is an activity in which the participants (called cheerleaders) cheer for their team as a form of encouragement. It can range from chanting slogans to intense physical activity. It can be performed to motivate sports teams, to entertain the audience, or for competition. Cheerleading routines typically range anywhere from one to three minutes, and contain components of tumbling, dance, jumps, cheers, and stunting.

It really is mindboggling that so many of you on this site are too ignorant to understand the difference. Actually it is not that surprising that most of the LoSerU are that ignorant, but really the rest of you should be able to read and understand the difference.
With cheerleaders like those, I guess it is hard to get very embarrassed

Fun fact. A&M is the only SEC school without any male cheerleaders.
quote:
The tradition of Yell Leaders began during a football game in the early 1900s. The Aggies were losing badly, and the audience was growing bored. The upperclassmen ordered the freshmen to find a way to entertain their guests, many of whom had been invited from Texas Woman’s University. The freshmen found white coveralls and began leading the crowd in yells. They had so much fun and received so much attention from their audience that it was decided that only upperclassmen would be allowed to participate in leading yells in the future.
My favorite is the freshmen started it so they gave the responsibility to the upperclassmen

I found this from your very own link, Buster
quote:
Organized cheerleading began as an all-male activity.
quote:
November 2, 1898, is the official birth date of organized cheerleading. Soon after, the University of Minnesota organized a "yell leader" squad of six male students, who still use Campbell's original cheer today.

Cool story.
Yell leaders aka male cheer leaders are the gayest thing in all of college sports. The little outfits, cheers, gyrations, etc. are all part of an amazing rainbow tapestry. I know, I know- we just "don't get it..."
Also: the (now viral) attempts to disparage the other teams at pep rallies with corny dad jokes have helped to shed light on just how bizarre and dorky your entire fanbase is.
aggy gon aggy.

Sorry you don't approve.
If they want to smack talk A&M, I am more than happy to give it right back to them.
