What this thread is really about

Wow. You really are obsessed with yourself.

No. Alabama rehiring Grant is an example of what would probably NOT have happened if Auburn had hired Pearl first.

Alabama rehiring Grant is settling for mediocrity and I doubt that SEC football power schools will keep doing that now.

You completely missed the point because you are only focused on yourself.

Auburn hiring Pearl is good for all of us. We need about 5 more hires like this throughout the SEC to get this conference back to some form of respectability. It is a disaster.

Say what you want about him, but when Dale Brown was coaching LSU and we were playing UNLV and Georgetown before 60,000 people in the Superdome, those were fun times. Wish we could get back to that.

Auburn hiring Pearl helps all of us - if we will respond and not just roll over.

You think the OP actually wants Auburn to be successful? Lulz.

"He's complimenting you guys....."

He left Alabama off a list of "teams that could/should be good" that included several teams with half the NCAA tourney appearances, SEC titles, etc. What you call a compliment looks more like a blatantly obvious troll attempt.

So you list Ole Miss, MSU, Georgia, Vandy, Auburn, and USCe as traditional powers yet Alabama who has way more SEC titles, NCAA appearances, and total wins than all those teams is somehow a doormat? That aside, I was about to post the same thing. I think Auburn's hiring of Pearl will have a domino effect on the SEC. The schools with questionable coaching will be on notice and go for their own homerun hires in the next few years.

No. Alabama is right there with them. I remember when Alabama was good at basketball. It was great. Wimp Sanderson and the plaid jackets.

I broke Alabama out as an example of a rehire (basically) that they made last week that would not happen again because the Pearl hire will force them to get competitive again.

Jeez, you people are so freaking sensitive.

We all suck at basketball. This should change things.

Was just told by my Alabama connection that Bama is happy that the basketball team isn't getting in trouble and is graduating it's players. He said that Pearl would have brought the NCAA with him and the REC wanted no part of that.

They seem to be OK with average basketball as long as football is doing well.

Alabama stands pat and keeps Grant and Auburn goes after Bruce Pearl and lands him.

I love it. Alabama would not make that decision now.

Yes, I want Auburn to be successful. I want them to win 20+ games a year and then I want LSU to be better than them and beat them every time we play.

But, I am sick of SEC basketball being in the toilet. I'd love to see us put 6-8 teams in the tournament. This is not a zero sum game. Why would I NOT want Auburn to be good?

Alabama too.

The response from Alabama fans to this just confirms how weird and petty you are. Wow.

you know good and well Pearl is a much better coach than Grant.

Pearl pre-Tennessee resume was very similar to Grant's pre-Alabama

I don't think it is a given that he will just walk right into Auburn and turn them around. Tennessee is a vastly superior basketball program in a much more talent rich state.

From what I took from his post, he wants all SEC teams to be successful in bball. We have the best football and baseball conf. in the nation. Other than UK and UF, we are a shite show in bball. I agree with him.

look at the conferences who have more Tourney teams than the SEC

I meant that I love what Auburn did and how it would force Alabama to not make that decision now. This changes things, which was the point of my whole post.

Think what you want. I don't care. You are borderline insane. I am taking a moment to explain to you what I meant so you can feel better, but I realize that I am probably arguing with a nonrational person, so whatever.

I was trying to say that if Auburn had hired Pearl two weeks ago, Alabama would not have reupped Grant, which would be good for everyone - I LOVE THAT.

I only hate Alabama football because of Saban. I am fine with Alabama basketball/baseball/etc being respectable again. It helps all of us.

I agree.

But this hire instantly effects recruiting in a positive manner. No question.

Thank you!

Yes. That is what I am trying to say.

Alabama re-upping Grant is hopefully a thing of the past and will not happen again because they will now get serious about basketball and not let the success that is about to happen on The Plains go unanswered.

I do not care about Alabama failing at basketball? Why would I? They are completely irrelevant and have been for over a decade.

We are all better when SEC basketball is competitive. Auburn's hire today moves us in that direction.

Not sure about that as long as Auburn is still an Under Armour school

No, thanks for pointing out the obvious. I'm sure you'll want to gloat about that fact next year too when we retain him once again.

Have you ever taken an AD's vote of confidence as a sign things are going in the right direction? I feel like 90% of guys get canned if they don't turn things around after an email like that.
