No. If making fun of Nick Saban makes Clowney feel better about himself, then more power to him. And if reading about Clowney making fun of Saban makes South Carolina fans feel better about themselves, then good for you. Have a nice day.

Clowney was a good college player but he doesn't like being coached. So he made the right choice not coming to Bama.

You aren't old. You just play the crotchety old man character on here because you think it's cool. You aren't the first person to do it and you won't be the last.

Thank you ... and, for the most part I usually don't feel old, except when I overdo it physically or when my prostate is acting-up. And as far as my mind goes, my mind still thinks it is as young as it was a long time ago .....but the body doesn't follow the mind like it used to and the sleep is much more sporadic.

I'm 63 ... true or false? If you believe that to be a lie, how old do you believe me to be, if I may ask?

BTW, I'm glad to know that I get under your skin this much Patton. That makes this so much more fun.

Hardly. While Clowney is a very good player, we experienced enough drama from the roster we had without adding his teenage girl drama to the mix.

That's an interesting point but I wonder if that is an indictment on Bama coaching or Clowney?

He was coached just fine at Carolina .... a three time All-SEC player.

While many many great players have come out of, or off of, Sabah recruited and coached teams, I am always astounded at the number of highly rated 4* and 5* recruits who disappear and are never heard from again once they sign with Bama. By that I mean, Saban recruits the most great prospects as is evidenced by the #1 class rankings every year .... but he also processes the most which, to some extent at least, calls into question either his coaching, his coaching staff or his failure to recruit to fit his system.

He recruited Clowney hard ... real hard. He hired Chris Rumpf to recruit Clowney, Shell, Dixon, Jr and Dukes .... but failed with all of them.

So would Clowney have failed and been processed at Bama?

Well Clowney is a huge pussy-hurt bitch for the Texans so I have no doubt Clowney would get processed

I doubt Clowney and the process would have seen eye to eye.

Who got it worse? Alabama by not having Clowney (and MAYBE winning one more title in 2013), or Clowney by not having Alabama (having 2 less national titles and 2 less SEC titles than he won at USCe).

Easy money says Clowney got the short end of the stick... but man, at least he didn't end up with a short coach who talks a lot - because having a tall coach that talks a lot is way more important.

I agree. I suspect he would still be in college after he had to transfer to find a place that would put up with his work ethic.

So Clowney's pass rush would not have helped you win one or two more .... that's what you're saying, amirite? 'cause I kept thinking a few times back the, jeeesh, if Bama had Clowney off the end they would be unstoppable right now. I'm getting older and I have had too much to drink most of my life.
That's evident from this thread.

Not sure about how much he talks but Saban visited my work a month or so ago and I did indeed get a picture with him.

I'm 6'1 and in ordinary loafers he comes up to my ears. I'd put him at 5'8 without shoes and I have the picture to prove it

Why would Bama want a quitter like Clowney. After all he took his Sr. season off.
But then had he been in a good program like UA he might have played hard for 3 years then taken his rings and then gone NFL .

Is that what you wanted?

Let's investigate this possibility.

Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina 2011-2013

National Champion 2011? Alabama
National Champion 2012? Alabama

2013? Bama goes undefeated until the last second of the regular season and loses the chance to three-peat.

Obviously he wouldn't have added a title in 2011 or 2012 because Bama got those without him. Could he have been the difference maker in 2013? Sure

BUT

By that point in the season, Clowney was already spending that NFL money and mailing it in on the field when he bothered to play at all. He had a whopping two solo and one shared tackle against Clemson - and 2013 Auburn was way, way better than 2013 Clemson. He'd have probably tapped out.

So no, unless his time under Saban could have changed his attitude and work ethic, he wouldn't have made difference in winning the only title Bama didn't win without him during his college career.

I try to play the cool old man character on here. Hope it's working.

Coming together, arm in arm, while singing kumbaya and taking-down the flag .... that's what makes us feel better about ourselves. Those are the important things in life ... not short people.

So Bama's supporting cast, outstanding tradition and superior assistant staff would not have resulted in less wear-and-tear on Clowney while helping him to yield better numbers, better optics?

I'm starting to recognize a trend here when it comes to Bama fans and players who ... I dunno, fail to pay homage and demonstrate proper respect for having been courted by Nick?
