No. They figured it would make a great new revenue stream to have a place where fans from all SEC schools could congregate and discuss issues related to the teams that make up the conference. They figured this would generate more page views than a site called "tigerdroppings.com" geared exclusively to LSU fans would. They figured page views = impressions and impressions = ad revenue.
They figured they'd turn their passion into an income and allowed their good business sense to over-ride their fanhood b/c there is more to their lives than LSU sports (like making money). Maybe you, too, should decide to add some variety to your life.

SEC Rant was created due to trolls(mostly gumps) on Tiger Rant.

That may have been the start of the idea, but the money/revenue was what made it possible.
The SECr is tied to the hip of TD due to how it started, but it isn't a LSU message board just hosted on one

It's not a may have been, it's a fact. I was posting on here before the SEC Rant days and the gumps are the main reason for the SEC Board.
It played out nicely and has grown beautifully,but the main reason it was created was to keep the peace on the Tiger Rant.
Also, none of the other schools really started joining the sec Rant until it was up and running for about a year. The LSU/BAMA arguments back then were legendary. Especially the PP7 vs JJ threads. BamaScoop was actually a decent poster then and pondwaterJack was the original gump.
