Anybody miss the old JP Sports days of everybody playing Wednesday Night?

Except for the "Super Tuesday Night" ESPN Game.
The ol' JP Sports Wed. nighter...usually Regional Coverage of 2 games. Yeah maybe your team isn't on t.v...but the radio every now and then isn't so bad.
Of course Saturday was only 2 games, but FoxSports South, and CBS did games too, so Saturday was pretty much covered.
Now playing Tue, Wed, and Thursday night..it's all a cluster. To me it was easier to follow with the Wednesday set up.
And SEC Basketball sucks now, along with attendance being down.
Graphics were ahead of their time.

Attendance being down can be contributed to the tip off times due for the television broadcasts, hard to make it from work for a 6:00 tip or home for work the next day after a 8:00 tip. But more money is generated from the current format than from the "lost" attendance which in most cases purchased a ticket anyway.

Tom Hammond is in GOAT territory for me...loved him and Joe Dean on the JP games.

I can remember watching games from Saturday aired for the first time after the 10:00 news on Sunday night.

Yeah they were a great combo.
Dave Neal has been steady over the years. It's nice to see him on the SEC Network since he started with the SEC from the ground up, even though he never gets to call marque games.

Loved watching those Saturday games and also remember the
ACC Tuesday Nt games in the 70's...unbelievable matchups.

I'm nostalgic for JP Sports, but more televised games is better. I think you're mainly missing good SEC basketball. If we had as many good teams now as then, the current setup would seem great. There would be a good conference game on almost every night.

Disagree, college hoops is way overexposed, the regular season is meaningless and one and dones have made the sport unwatchable although I'll still tune in for March Madness.

Actually farther back in the day, the rotation was Sat-Mon. Road trips were paired for every team exactly the same
Vandy - UK
UT - UGA
AUB - FL
Bama - State
OM - LSU
So the rotation through the year was home and away for the total of 18 games. Of course the teams generally traveled by bus and each two game swing was one trip w/2 stops. For the fan it was easy to keep up with.
Today is a mish mash with no continuity. Of course 14 teams instead of 10 make the old schedule impossible.

So you conference play would obviously last 9 weeks I suppose unless teams got an off week (which I doubt)
So I'm guessing most teams played maximum 25 to 30 reg season games?
Would love to see em go back to a more compact season.

I hate Brando, but I watched an old Mississippi State - Alabama game from 2004 on SECN Rewind the other night, and he and Joe Dean were really good together. It felt good to see those graphics and hear those familiar voices again.

Teams would have a night off (usually the Monday) when they played their traveling partner in the setup in the early-to-mid '70s (that scheduling format probably went back further than that).
Usually, teams played 18 SEC games and nine non-conference games for a 27-game regular season. I don't remember if you got a waiver for playing in a pre-conference tournament, but I think those were usually tournaments hosted by one school and counted toward the 27 games.
Regular season may have ended a week earlier, but you also didn't have an SEC tournament from the mid-'50s until the revival of the tourney in '79.
I just miss the smaller conference in all sports.

Real reasons for declining attendance
#1 required "donations" have become obscene
#2 game tipping in the 2nd slot (9pm EST)
#3 more games during week when folks can't / won't go
#4 more games at "neutral" locations for TV that kills the local / loyal fans
#5 AD salaries (and budgets) that are about 10x the actual rise in cost of living
When the Baby Boomers start dying off in bigger numbers we will see a crash in college sports nobody is likely to recover from. Universities and AD's have forgotten that sports are like farming in that you have to grow this years crop while planning to sow for future crops.
In the end, greed kills most things but is never blamed at the actual funeral

I don't like it, more 8:00 games for everyone as well.
That's too late to bring kids on a school night.
Wed and Sat should be the days but with SEC network and ESPN wanting to show all games that's the way it's going to be.
That is the reason as well for poorly attended games, all on TV now.
SEC basketball outside of UK is dead unless your team is still in contention after Football Signing Day.
Baseball has overtaken men's hoops!
