How did Vandy outplay USC?

They only rushed for 67 yards and had less than 300 yards of offense. They averaged less than 2 yards per carry. You don't win many games in the SEC like that.

USCs DBs let a couple of passes get through that shouldn't have and still only gave up just over 200 yards in the air.

USC did what they had to do. Stop the run, play D and win the game (blown PI recognized).

With Vandy not being able to run the ball they don't scare me very much at all.

You can't run the zone read unless you have a Scam/Tebow/Relf type who are built in such a way to take the pounding.

Shaw will be turned to mincemeat by good SEC defenses. I think Vandy's good but their Defensive Line is world's away from those in Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, & Baton Rouge.

He will get obliterated by those squads. Spurrier may be bluffing his arse off on offense against the upper half of the SEC.

The knee brace on Lattimore is telling. Dat boy ain't 100%. At least mentally. Having had a few blown knees, the mental part takes longer to heal than the physical part.

If anything they should have had 7 less points.

Vandy might not be your typical Vandy team anymore, but they're marginally better at best. They won't beat any decent teams this year. Other than the defensive line, Carolina played horrible tonight, and Vandy STILL couldn't find a way to win at home.

Just don't understand all the optimism for Vandy this year. They're a 6-6 team at best, which is "better" for them, but is still very mediocre.

I think USC will be fine. Although it is the opening week of the season, I'm not sure I am sold on them being top ten. I can't say USC will be shitty based on their first game though. ML seems to be running a bit cautiously and I don't really blame him if he is with it being the first game and him getting his first real contact of the year. I think he will get back to where he was like last year after another game or two and he gets more confidence in his repaired knee.

OK, they got one more turnover than USC.

Didn't Vandy give up 5 sacks?

Don't know that we've determined that with complete certainty.

Could be that both teams have regressed.

Am I the only one that thinks that Vandy is pretty good?"

Vandy's been playing at a pretty good level since the middle of last season.

I agree with five_fivesix. I've had both knees worked on and you may be there physically but mentally it scares the shite out of you to get back in that position. Muscle memory takes place and you favor the leg. He is not 100% and Heisman hopeful... I don't think so with that performance.
And I do think Vandy looked okay! Slightly good even.

Just a thought... He might have been running tentatively because that shitty field turf was soaked through.

The shitty field didn't help, especially with his head.

There will always be a reason to doubt the knee until he stops thinking about it. All I saw was a RB that wasn't cutting like he should and had lost a little quickness in the first step, but he is still hard to bring down.

How many passing yards did SCar have? I'll shite my pants if they had more than 150. Rodgers had 240 yards passing tonight. If that shitty QB can drop 240 on SCar with his HORRIBLE receivers, I can't fricking wait for Tyler Wilson to have a shot.

Really? I saw a guy that once crushed SEC linebackers going down on first contact against smallish linebackers.

Actually two teams. AU and UF should be tier 1 since they actually have a title in the last few years.

I don't care what anybody says. It's got to be difficult to have a group of college age kids ready for true competition ready in week one. Given the truest test of a head coach I think HCJF proved that he will have his team ready for anyone they have to play. That being said by week six we will all see that SC is a much better team. I think tonight's efforts speak more to HCJF's preparedness than anything. If Vandy doesn't throw that pick in the redzone early this is a different game.
