She didn't graduate. She went to another college for most of her education then transferred to Alabama for a year then left. That said, wonderful author.

I agree from a purely literary point of view, but from a kid whose favorite "character" was Atticus because of the first book it was a bit sad. Realistic and well done, but still sad. We all know enough of those people in real life, I wasn't excited to see my fictional hero go down the same path.

Good point, she spent her first few years at Huntingdon and didn't actually graduate after transferring to Alabama

She attended Huntington here in Montgomery for one year, then to Alabama to study law where she became involved with the student news paper and became an editor of one of the publications - then to Oxford University for a summer - then to NYC where she decided to become a writer.

She would probably scold you for having "A SEC" instead of "An SEC" in your title.

I saw an interview with Dylan a while back, and he was asked," You were famous, for songs, like. Blowin In The Wind, Hollis Brown..etc...,why don't you do things like that anymore?"

He said something like,I guess I went as far as I could with it,said all I could say about it,you move on.

IMO When you try to recapture the essence of the original, you end up with Boston's Don't Look Back Album, and it will always be compared to the original, probably not favorably.

Pat Dye's drunken ramblings about his relationship with Harper Lee

quote:

"No," he tells the two, "I don’t know where I put the thing." He rummages through drawers as he talks. "But I do got 10 love letters from her (Lee.)"

Love letters?

"Yeah, love letters." He pauses. "Nancy says I turned her."

Neither is exactly sure what he meant by that statement.

One of my favorites. She wrote about a hard time in the South, and did so with a rare humanity and perspicacity.

A friendship quickly blossomed and soon they were meeting for coffee or lunch at Radley's.

Radley's? This must mean something, right?

Does anybody remember the Finebaum segment with Pat Dye when he came on one day, maybe in 2007 or 2008, and talked about how Harper Lee sent him a signed copy of "To Kill a Blackbird" (his words) and he sent Harper Lee a signed copy of "In the Arena". He was also clearly buzzing from a little afternoon whiskey drink.

Holy shate, it was amazing radio.

Radley's was a restaurant in Monroeville until this year. It was named after the characters in the book. A local guy bought out the owners of Radley's and opened a Guthrie's, because fast food chain restaurants are apparently cooler than local flavor.
