Alligator thread. If I say "Go Gata" then it's on topic here.

Bullet points:

Most attacks on humans are in Florida I see. Like way more than 90% of them.

Those bastards can run 35 miles an hour?

Did see a report of an attack and death of a woman walking her dog in Hilton Head in the past year or so.

Acquaintance of mine, his uncle and them caught an 11-footer in Pine Bluff area, Arkansas River vicinity, about a year ago.

I've lived in New Orleans, walked to Pontchartrain, I get it. It is what it is, but it's terrifying to me to consider buying property way way down south. I'd end up being the 0.0003% who gets eaten by a fricking gator.

Not sure what my point is. I'm afraid of alligators. And I might want to retire down south. Downvote me. I don't care. But tell me everything is going to be okay.

Gators are territorial. If you're stupid enough to walk your dog next to a body of water then you're putting yourself at risk. That's how almost all of the attacks have occurred over the years. They don't bother you if you steer clear of their territory. They don't leave their territory to hunt for prey.

That attack in Hilton Head isn't the only one, there have been other recent ones on Hilton Head. The alligators are overpopulated on an Island that is also overpopulated by humans. One has to go. As much as I hate humans, especially those on HIlton Head, it's the gators that need to be culled.

Is this at least up for debate?

I have a nice who owns a nice house in a golf subdivision below Foley. Their yard butts
up to a 15 acre lake. I have never heard her say anything about seeing a gator on any of the lakes on the course. They are in an area with gators. A14 foot plus gator was killed within 5 miles of her house. I think the reason there are none on the golf course is because the club has any which are seen on that club property caught and done away with.

If we're talking about a trip to the Okefenokee swamp and I want to bring my dog, I understand that's a risk. But if I live in a resort with golf course ponds and paths that go around water, I should just not walk my dog. That's stupid. Alligators are not endangered. When they get big, they need to be removed from populated areas. Where high concentrations of people live, there should not be any large alligators. Especially like HHI, where there's been 3 attacks in the last two years.

Just general chit chat I've heard for instance, "yeah, Wilson Lake in the Shoals is safe, no gators at all..." and then "oh yeah, 20 miles down in Wheeler Lake, they got gators..."

That just makes no sense to me.

Arkansas has had gator hunting for 17 years or so. 13’ specimens are harvested most years. They are in the delta region as far north as Paragould.
Arkansas is becoming infested with this fascinating creatures.

It’s not. You are going to get eaten by an alligator.

I remember being at UF. Over at Lake Alice the gators would swim up to the shoreline expecting you to feed them. They were spoiled.

The coolest thing to me about the whole deal is that Lake Alice (and the gators) are right across the street from the playground at the UF childcare center and married student housing.

Might be why everybody keeps the gators well fed.

theyre alot like dogs in that they can sense your fear. next time you see one, you run and jump in the water and smack em on the face and show it whos boss. he'll never bother you again. trust me
