My friend posted this on FB.

So many times, events around the world happen and we're helpless to give aid. Now we can help and I hope everyone will hit each of these with $5 or $10. They are all on the ground in TX, and they all score higher than 75% on the Charity Navigator which charts how much of each donation goes directly to disaster relief:

Good pal Lynda suggested this
one. Do great help locally too.

Did great work after Katrina and
Rita!!

Franklin Graham's relief organization. Did amazing work in Haiti after earthquake and hurricane.

Not saying other relief orgs. are bad, but please check them out before you give. Many spend as little as $.10 to $.30 of each dollar raised on direct relief. 9/11 shined a lot of light on charities.

Give what you can, please share if you would, and keep praying!! It's not over yet, stay safe Houston.

You're an angel.
We have family members and friends all over the state (as do many others); folks just can't get out of the city to get there in most cases.
Thankfully, it looks like the water is finally receding in many places.
There are sporadic areas where levees, dams, and reservoirs are causing headaches; but I think overall, people are feeling much safer today than they were this time yesterday.

Clean-up is another story.
But in the words of Scarlet, "... tomorrow is another day!"

If anyone does end up needing help, please just let me know. He no longer works so he is available 24 hours/7 days a week. He stepped on an IED in Afghanistan and lost one of his legs. Wounded Warrior Project built him and his wife and kids a nice house and a couple of the kids have since left for college and the boys wanted to share a room so they have lots of space.

Please don't hesitate to let me know. That goes for everyone reading this. Y'all stay safe!

Colquitt,

I live on Colquitt, currently in Dallas, work pulled us out last Friday to set up remote office... From what I'm hearing from neighbors Colquitt between the Menil and Shepard has done pretty well water up over the sidewalk only we are extremely fortunate. Looking at my Ring app all day long and for the last 2 days i can see the entire tires of a car parked across the street. and as I look at it now looks like it is finally not raining.

Stay safe Houston.

Thanks EKG...still doing well over here on the West side of 45. Had some friends from Sugarland evacuate over to Kingwood to stay with friends there. They said they've had to evacuate there now because Lake Houston is flooding all the houses around the lake. We were at The Woodlands United Methodist Church most of the day. They're collecting food, toiletries and household items like blankets and pillows. So we brought what we could and volunteered up there for a few hours at the shelter they've set up. Other than not being able to get out, my house was fortunate and stayed dry and did most of our neighborhood.

Shockingly we remain dry and with electricity. Spent the last day and a half helping those who were less fortunate.

I live north of Beaumont in a small town, we have been inundated with rain the last two days and it will continue until noon tomorrow. Interstate 10 is closed just west of here near Winnie. The main highway from Beaumont north to where I live is also under water. I'm fortunate that my house hasn't experienced flooding, but many devastated houses and heart breaking stories in the area. Even after dark I can still hear airboats going out to rescue people. We appreciate your prayers. Just one more day of rain forecasted here and the rivers should crest by Thursday.

It's wild, right?
As I type this, I hear military helicopters flying overhead.
Hope y'all are able to hang tight for another day.

Anyone in the Portland/Corpus Christi area? I spent my middle school years there and still try to keep in contact with some of them. What's it like in that area right now?

My cousin is a minister at a church in Portland, and I have other family there as well; so I've been able to follow their goings on pretty closely.

A good portion of the city has sustained massive structural damage, as has Rockport.
Corpus came out relatively well, comparatively.
As of tonight, half of Portland residents are still w/o power.
Despite it all, spirits remain high there.

Portland residents still without power

Some shots of Portland from yesterday:

Why in the hell do people down vote something nice? I could say I hope everyone is ok after a tornado and 5 people would down vote.

It hasn't rained much since this morning but around 2pm several levees had controlled (maybe uncontrolled) releases of water where I live in the Eldridge, Dairy Ashford, West Houston area. Within an hour streets went from walkable to 4/5 feet deep. Houses several streets from me began flooding. Water keeps going up and now my street is under water rising up to the houses. Most neighbors have evacuated but a few of us have stayed. I've now taken in several neighbors families as our house is one of the last to take in water. The street is now a launching point for boats. Helicopters, airboats, jet skis, etc., have been rescuing people non stop just a few streets up (helicopters just stopped running I believe). We're hoping and praying the water stops rising.

I pray all is well. We are scrambling here but I just heard that the entire city of Port Arthur is completely under water. The refugee center had to be evacuated. Your entire area has gotten 15+ inches of rain in the last few hours. Lightning has caused fires in several places as well. They anticipate another 8 inches by the morning. That is what we got here. We need rescue boats over there. You have a tough road ahead. Stay safe.

I'm good Jobu. Thanks for the concern.

They are still releasing water from Addicks and it's flooded several neighborhoods thus far. My house is still dry but it's touch and go as it keeps rising. It is very frustrating to not have rain in 24 hours but we're getting more water than when we had 30" of rain a few days ago. I'm hoping that I don't have to evacuate families that had to evacuate to my house.
