I don't claim 1941.
I do claim 1966. And really... the link in OP... that's a credible one.

Here's the deal win the championship out right and you don't have to "claim" shite you dip frick gumps. Auburn was awarded the 2004 championship by Sporting News, maybe we should "claim" that one.

What's funny is that Tennessee somehow claims 6, and their fans are still stupid enough to point fingers at Bama.
I assure that our 6 are just as legitimate as your 15, and we don't claim any as bogus as your 1941. None of our 6 are 2 loss seasons, but your 1941 is.

This sentence wraps up just how ignorant most of you are. There is no championship to win "out right". Alabama doesn't "claim" titles. Alabama lists the national championships AWARDED to us by polls that we consider reputable.
If you don't like who the poll awarded that year, tell the people who run the poll. If you think The Sporting News is a legitimate national championship, and you're willing to defend it as a legitimate title, go ahead and list it.
I personally wish we didn't list 1941, because it is the least defensible title we have and the Houlgate is not reputable enough to overcome the controversial pick. If it were the AP, I'd say list it and tell everyone to screw themselves. But in my mind, the Houlgate is not a strong enough poll by itself to stand on its own with a controversial pick.
Alabama lists 15 titles awarded by polls that its sports info department considers legitimate. I don't "claim" anything, except that you are bitter and ignorant, and don't understand your own argument.

win the title based on the rules of the time.
What about the number of "championships" that were awarded sometimes many years after the said season was played? the gumps didnt win those, yet each fricking one of them is listed. But I actually like the fact that yall claim so many, it gives me something to laugh at when I see gumpers with 15 on their t-shirts and hats.

1941 should've never been claimed and it's an embarrassment...we should drop that one like a hot potato...
I can see his point in '64 & '73 as well...even though that's the way many of the polls did it back then (bowls were kind of seen more as a reward to a good season as opposed to an extension of the season)...and as the author showed, many other schools claim similar titles. I think the problem then was the polls awarding the titles before the bowl as opposed to the teams accepting them...don't know why they ever went that route. While these 2 claims are nowhere near the embarrassment of claiming 1941, I'd be OK with dropping them as well...
I think 1978 was legit though...while we lost to USC (who finished #2 AP and #1 UPI), USC lost to Arizona State (unranked AP, #19 UPI). We were ranked #2 in both polls before the bowls and we beat the #1 team in country. No problem claiming this one, and no problem sharing it with USC either...
While I think we got screwed in '66 and '77, many other schools have had similar things happen to them as well (Auburn in '83 and Ole Miss in '60 spring to mind) so don't think we can claim either of them...
I'm OK with claiming just 12...

Do the same people continue to start and participate in the threads on this topic, or are they different people who come in and out the forum? I can't imagine anyone being so obsessed with a topic that they must constantly think/talk about it. I'll bet their acquantances find them to be really interesting people.

I would be okay with whatever number is based on criteria consistently applied. If the credible number is 12, I can live with that. Questioning whether retroactive polls are legitimate is a discussion worth having. I don't even want to discuss it with a clown who thinks Alabama has about 4 while claiming auburn won it in 1983 and 2004.

I'm assuming you mean the 1972 season (Punt Bama Punt)...we won that outright solely based on our having played (and won) one more SEC game than Auburn, with each of us having one loss (Bama 7-1, Auburn 6-1). But if this is the season of which you speak, all things being equal it would still have been a shared title, even though y'all would've held the tie-breaker. That was a strange season; Bama played 8 conference games, most others played 7, and UT, LSU, & Vandy only played 6...

Does it just get you all frustrated and mad when ESPN uses the number 15 helmet when Bama is on Gameday?
