80% of the roster was rated a 4 star or higher coming out of HS.

He wasn't going to have grades to get in, therefore he was given the option to greyshirt (if he got in) or go to JuCo and start over. He chose Memphis because the requirements are easier (it was thought to be ULL or Memphis for the same reasons). Pretty simple. And normal.

What is your point? Do you get mad when LSU does this? Because they do, and have, and it has been documented here over the last 2 weeks. So does Auburn. So does Ole Miss. Greyshirting is just deferring enrollment. It isn't taking away scholarships, it is deferring them to Spring Semester following the next football season so that their scholarships count against the following year and not the current one.
