According to the post he "never thought he would see the day" that winning against Maryland would be laudable. So technically, they are not two different things in context to the argument. Winning is winning. And FSU fans certainly bragged about it.

Tried to punch it in with our third string QB and 4th and 5th string running backs.
1st and 10 at USM 47 Tyren Jones run for 9 yds to the SoMis 38
2nd and 1 at USM 38 Tyren Jones run for 3 yds to the SoMis 35 for a 1ST down
1st and 10 at USM 35 Altee Tenpenny run for 8 yds to the SoMis 27
2nd and 2 at USM 27 Altee Tenpenny run for 6 yds to the SoMis 21 for a 1ST down
1st and 10 at USM 21 Altee Tenpenny run for 6 yds to the SoMis 15
2nd and 4 at USM 15 Altee Tenpenny run for 13 yds to the SoMis 2 for a 1ST down
1st and Goal at USM 2 Tyren Jones run for 2 yds for a TD, (Adam Griffith KICK)
There was 4:50 left in the game when Alabama got the ball.

Maryland scored more on WV than Bama. Maryland offense > Alabama offense

And WVU got the ball back after Alabama went for it with 0:16 to go. Obviously, you could have taken a knee around the USM 20 yard line. But winning isn't winning.. and 40-37 is a world of difference compared to 63-0.

Again, according to the argument it was all or nothing. He did not say, "I never thought I'd see the day where beating Maryland 40-37 is praiseworthy". He said winning. This has nothing to do with Alabama.
