felt like the Bama defense was smaller than normal, but faster. LSU style

I think the potential is there. 2012 had 4 shutouts and led the nation in scoring defense. I hope this one can best that, but that's a tall order.

I tivo'd the Nick Saban show and he brought up an interesting point. They had no idea what offense VT was going to run. So when VT came out running spread option like they did the D still responded and adjusted. Its crazy to think the one big play they had was a counter play of an offense we weren't even prepared to stop its base plays and we still had a guy whiff in the hole or it would have been a 3 yard gain.

cant really use the Vtech game as a gauge. Logan Thomas is one of the most inaccurate passers in D1 football. And when he is accurate, he throws the ball so hard that Vtechs weak core of WR's cant hold on to it or adjust to it.

In 2011, the D was big and mean. If they could prepare for you it was over before it started. They would just slowly strangle you. Someone said they are smaller and faster like LSU. I somewhat agree. They are fast but they are still big though.

Being faster gives a D the ability to adjust like Bama did against what V Tech came at them with. That is a good advantage to have. They will be better able to handle mobile qbs and the unexpected. Extra prep time will make them even better. It will always come down to execution though. Depriest could not shed a block and make a play on that long td run for example. With Saban and Smart running that show, this years D is the least of my worries.

2011, python that slowly killed you.
2013, more quick strike.

I love our defense. I'll take a great defense over a great offense all day. Especially in college. Seems to pay off, see LSU.

Already better than 2012 or 2010. Probably as good as 2009, potential to be as good as 2011.

and you can tell this how? Logan Thomas is not a good quarterback and did not have the game of his life.
