Tennessee recently demolished Iona in three games… 27-1, 29-0, 12-2, or about… So when the VOLS lost to # 1 Texas this past weekend, a lot of LSU/Arky/MSU fans were quick to point out “You’re not playing Iona anymore.” Hence the Iona reference / comparison :)

I wonder if the UNA fans sang the Rammer Jammer song at the end of the game. Lol

For reference/comparison sake, Alabama beat LSU 28-2 in a game in the 1997 regular season series...the same LSU that went on to beat Alabama in the College World Series final to win the national championship. I say that only to reference just how far the program has fallen since it was an elite program in the mid/late 1990s.
The lack of an education lottery in the state has and will continue to limit both Alabama and Auburn (outside of the very rare exceptions...i.e. Auburn in 2019) in college baseball

The series between LSU and Alabama in 1997 was pretty nuts. They ended up playing 6 times: three times in the regular season, twice in the SECT, and in the CWS Title game. They split the games 3-3. It was a nice little rivalry for a few years. The met two years later in the super regionals, where Alabama would win. As I alluded to earlier ITT, Jim Wells never should have been forced out. No coach has even come close to doing what he did for the program since.

I remember the games between LSU and Bama well that year. I went to the series in Tuscaloosa when Bama won 28-2, and I was sure Bama would win the World Series Used to go to the baseball camp when Wells was the coach in the 90's

I was wondering about that. Mississippi started lottery a few years ago, but there isn't a lottery scholarship yet, correct?

They matter when you give up 15 runs to Xavier. I didn’t even know Xavier had a baseball program.

They've actually had a decent program recently with several trips to the tournament. Just looked at their schedule, record doesn't look great but their schedule is pretty brutal. Already have played road series at Alabama and Oregon State, and they won't play their first home series until April.
