I wonder when the last time the two rivals didn't play in a season? Kind of strange.

I guess softball has a total rotation year by year and no set opponents?

seems weird to me that bama/au wouldn't play each other in every sport.

Even in a situation like this, can they not play as a non-conf game similar to what they've done before (in i think baseball)?

Yeah. AU-Bama usually meet in a midweek game in Baseball in addition to the weekend series. Odd that the softball teams wouldn't play, but I guess scheduling is a nightmare with a growing conference.

Yeah that is weird.

Especially considering that Alabama plays Troy, UAB, Jax State, Samford, and South Alabama. Auburn plays Samford and Troy.

Florida and Bama played non-conference a few years ago. You can make it happen.

The head scheduler for SEC sports is a Bama grad.

Obligatory answer in obligatory schedule thread.

Only people from the state of Alabama care about that match up

And the SEC office is in Birmingham and run by the REC.

Rotation is on a 3 year cycle. Since Vanderbilt doesn't play, there are no divisions.

Each school plays 8 weekends during 10 weeks. In year 1, team A plays B,C,D,E at home; F,G,H,I on the road; and doesn't play J,K,L,MY.

In year 2, basically the team wouldn't play the home teams from year 1, play the road teams at home, and play the ones they didn't play on the road.

Finish the cycle in year 3.

2016 is the 1st year of the new cycle.
