Isn't Battle just a transition guy? I would think you would want to wait for the new President before any more coaching changes.

AU and UA will always suck at baseball. Sure, both will field a decent team every 10 years, but neither will become a power. And college baseball killed any chance of becoming a popular sport when the NCAA killed the bats. The lack of talent is showing. I will never know why the NCAA would want to kill the identity of its sport. It is not the MLB, and never will be.

They introduced a new ball this year that has increased HRs by around 40%.

The talent level now is the highest it's ever been in college. More and more kids are choosing college over signing out of high school.

is that why more top talent is going to college now than ever before?

Hope you're kidding... A majority of Bama's fanbase was and always will be football only... They may get excited if Bama wins a ship in a different sport, but that would be the only reason.

I'm not disputing this. I just think the recent success of football and the bandwagon fans that have come with it haven't been good for the other sports. Softball and gymnastics are always going to have support because they were built by two coaches who poured everything they have into being in the community and building the two.

They worked their asses off to make sure they were routinely tops in attendance. Not only in the SEC, but for the country.

Alabama baseball doesn't struggle to draw when they're winning. It's not unrealistic to think a year in and year out contender would have top five attendance in the country, especially considering the new stadium. The purpose of this thread is to sell my belief that Gaspard is not the man to get this done. It's disappointing, but not surprising that he was retained.

We averaged 5th in attendance in 1999, the last time we went to the CWS:

1999 Attendance Figures - PDF

LSU was #1, Alabama was second in the SEC. I know a lot of schools have raised their level since then, but the support is there if the results are there. If you settle for 35-28, you can't expect the fans to support the mediocrity you're selling.

I also think I read that 60% of the MLB active roster is filled with college players which, I think, is an all time high.

Its trending in the right direction and the folks who DGAF will be left behind.

Uh, no.

The current stadium has a seating capacity of 101,821 with an all-time attendance record of the same amount. All Tuscaloosa home games since 1988 have been consecutively sold out.

Even though it is trending in that direction, baseball has something that football and basketball do not: minor leagues. Most of these baseball players who graduate from college go to AA or AAA right after signing a contract. It may be several years before we see them in the Show if at all.

When I see players like Amari Cooper playing in the college ranks I KNOW I will see them starting in the NFL in a relatively short period of time.

Lol false. And that's a baseball in general problem not college. The best high school players many times never make it past the minors either. And there are only 2 rounds in the NBA draft. Most good college players end up overseas

Alabama will be sniffing around for a homerun hire from now until Gaspard is done next year, and you can bet he'll be a great one!

No one said it was unique. Your fan base is the biggest and Bama has the most frontrunners. I'm not sure if it is just because the fan base is the biggest or if Bama fans are disporpotiantely poor and stupid relative to other fan bases. Frankly, it doesn't matter. The point remains.

Who are you kidding? If you quizzed TEN average joe LSU fans in the muddy swamps of Louisiana, I bet all ten couldn't name LSU's baseball coach.

LSU's baseball stadium doesn't seat 100k people and there's a reason for that. Stop acting as if Alabama fans are the only collegiate fanbase that doesn't support a gay, boring arse sport. How does LSU's baseball ratings compare to football? What about internet chatter? Merchandise sales? The majority of your fanbase could give a shite less about it as well and you're delusional if you sincerely believe otherwise...

In all fairness, I can see that. UA AD prolly thinks Gaspard should get a chance to recruit with a new stadium behind him.

Tell us all about the jam-packed PMAC during the Trent era.

I went to quite a few of those games, we sucked, but I'm an LSU fan. I'm sure there are people like that for a lot of schools. Sadly though, the only women's sport I attended was soccer, and its pretty bad. But I think women's sports are pretty fricking terrible to watch.

I can agree that the dead bats killed the fun of college baseball, without it being as good of a product as pro, the high scoring games made them really fun to be at. This year has been much better though.

I'd be willing to take that bet.

But I do get your point, otherwise.
