Always seemed like a decent game manager, but not going to win you games. Wouldnt lose them either. Just curious on your thoughts?

Max will flail around all game and look terrible but at the end of the day will somehow come out with a win or a close game.

Also someone said Max Johnson and Haynes King sound like men's underwear models and I agree with that.

That 2020 Ole Miss game where he looked like dogshit unless he just kind of threw it up Boutte's vicinity was so frustrating. Think he managed to get 400+ yards but less than 50% completion because Ole Miss could not cover Boutte.

He throws an accurate ball, and he’s a good scrambler. You see that scramble he had that got called back? He pulls shite like that out of a hat at times, hope he keeps improving and gets the ball out a tad faster this year.

I like him. If we had a very good oline it would be really interesting to see what he could do.

Huge upgrade over King so far.

He won't contend for a Heisman, but he'll get the job done and win us some games. I'll take it.

I like him more than King. He has better pocket presence.

Had Arkansas made the FG I was skeptical we’d be able to drive down the field for a win though.

He looks almost the same as he did last year. Decent runner that will hit enough passes to move the ball but not consistent enough to put teams away.

Some lsu fan told he he ran a lot his freshman year but not last year. Based on last year’s review, I was concerned bc we always run the QB and the option here at A&M. Then boom, MF’ing Max Johnson running the option vs Arkansas lmao love it

Pretty much how I feel about him. I had high hopes for King and his athletic ability, but he obviously didn't pan out. I like Johnson's ability to not make catastrophic mistakes. He's like senior-year Kellen Mond 2.0. He's fairly accurate, and has no problem sitting in the pocket even with pressure in his face. A pleasant surprise with him is that he's a smart runner. Johnson has no problem rushing for guaranteed yards, so it helps prevent down and distance situations.

We are 4-0 no doubt if he starts against App State, but you can't think about that now.

You are pretty close to accurate. While I don't think he is going to win us a game like Manziel could back in the day, I think he has the ability to be a slight upgrade over a game manager. I loved Calzada's toughness, but Max is a definite improvement and I think we will continue to see him and the offense improve as the year goes on. I think the more important thing is getting the O Line to gel

I can agree with that. He will be a nice buffer if the Ags can go out and get a top flite QB to sit for a year and learn. Not that I want that, but I like competition and I am all for the SEC producing good teams as long as the Tigers are in that group

I honestly think he has that with Connor Weigman already. You can certainly take it with a grain of salt but I've heard it from a couple of folks that much of the team thought he would take the reins if King got benched. I'm no insider and don't claim to be but from what I've heard, the only reason he isn't the starter is his youth.

i think he throws a good ball, better have legit WRs though.. he hits guys right in the chest and they drop them... his ball isnt easy to catch b/c lefty and WRs arent used to it.

We likely already have that QB in Conner Weigman. But I think you're spot on with the plan.

Haynes got his chance to win the spot after last years injury. Max was here to take over in case Haynes didn't work out, or got injured again. Weigman is waiting in the wings and will be the QB next year.

Haynes is blazing fast with a more accurate deep ball and is a great young man. But he just doesn't have a feel for the game, and Max has a great feel for the game. The QB job is Max's until Conner beats him out.

Max is a good QB. I am glad we have him!

I forgot about that kid. He is talented. Could be a nice setup for the Ags in the future.
