Sumlin is a terrible hire. His Houston team was a dog without Keenum and will be a dog next year. aTm needed a strong charismatic defensive coach to make an impact recruiting Texas for the SEC - and win. He can't do any of those three things. Sumlin will struggle and be gone by the end of 2013.

Recruiting isn't getting any easier for a&m. Texas and OU are not leaving, and now LSU is going to cherry pick the Houston area. I may be wrong, I just don't think it will work. They needed a coach with major name recognition and got the guy that fricked it up against southern miss.

This. They needed a name coach that could build on the momentum generated by the move to the SEC. Sumlin isn't that guy. Now, all the momentum will be pissed away over the next three years.

And...

Wait for it...

His offense won't work in the SEC.

So by hiring a guy who is in fact known for being charismatic and having good connections all over the state, our recruiting will worsen, our coaching will worsen, and LSU will start picking the best out of state talent?

The last part is somewhat believable if they keep winning the MNCs but other wise, it's an average hire at best, not garbage.

and wait for it....

His offense will change for the SEC west. See OU when he had Adrian Peterson.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but he isn't going to get an opportunity to throw for 9 TDs in a game in the SEC. Not sure if those TDs were out of necessity because he had no running game or if he chose to ignore the running game - if the latter, he'll be gone in 3yrs.

Average might be the right term to describe this hire, but average is not what aTm needed this year. They needed a splash. They needed a name. I don't think Sumlin is it.

If he can change his offense to suit the flow of the SEC, I will be impressed. We've heard it before. Urban tried to run his offense in the SEC and found out the hard way, it wasn't going to fly. He changed, but he also had Tebow.

I still think you should have gone with a more defensive minded coach.

Malzahn had Cam...That high school, Houston Cougar Run and Shoot will not fly in the West.

Also, Sumlin inherited the Houston offense. Art Briles was putting up similar number before he went to Baylor.

I'd say the jury is out on the Sumlin hire.

Did you see what Sumlin did last year without Keenum?

Yeah I did. You do realize how uninformed you are though right? It was not just Keenum. He lost Keenum AND his backup QB for the season in the same game. And later lost his 3rd quarterback. So yeah I'm sure that him being down to his 3rd and 4th QB was a good indicator of future success.

You also realize that he tailored that offense to fit his personnel at UH right? He is not going to be running the air raid at A&M. He didn't run it the 1/2 year he was the OC at A&M and he damn sure didn't run it when he was at Oklahoma with AD.

I don't think he will have any problems with producing a good offense. His success is going to depend on who he can get in as a DC and how much success we can have defensively.

Roscoe, you seem like a nice guy. You must know Sumlin is bottom of the barrell SEC. A&M needed "BIG, BOLD, POWERFUL" and they got Peppermint Patty with a lemon twist - bodes very poorly for the Aggies. Texas A&M had an incredible opportunity to make a lasting impresion on all of college football and they chose Larry Sumlin. I'm really dissapointed in the first important decision A&M made.

Who is Larry Sumlin? I agree this was not a splash hire by any means, but like I said, I'm not worried about his offense. I just hope he can get a legit DC.

Which available HC would you have wanted this year anyways? We tried for Petersen and Richt and couldn't pry either away (a pipe dream for either one).

Jon Gruden. A real coach wiht real credentials who could walk in and upstage Texas. Sumlin is a little girl and A&M is silly to have hired him.

He has a lot to prove to many doubters of former students, players and the fan base.
