No, not necessarily.
Virginia Tech kept their longtime DC despite a new head coach.
Us Aggies like Chief more than any A&M coach since RC. He will be given a veto power over whoever we replace Sumlin with if he wants it.

Hopefully he's given veto power over assistant coaches as well. (Hagan, Spavital, McKinney, Christiansen...)

I'd like to believe this will humble the aggies after last offseason. I'm sure they'll let us down like have in everything else.

This is sounding like Sumlin has been misbehaving with school credit card or something. Maybe something with recruits. Just very odd a bomb went off all the sudden.
