I'm fairly sure 2 suicides from a single parking garage per year is higher than average for parking garages.

Don't think this happens, don't think this is accurate

Agreed. We need more psychotherapists, more access to care, and a LOT fewer people creating a stigma about mental health problems.

Case in point, saying things like "get the frick over it" and calling depressed people "pussies", etc.

Hey guys I meant 1-2 per year on or near campus. Sorry for the confusion. This is at least the 3rd I know of from a garage. I don't know if it's the same garage, there must be 8 or so on campus.

sometimes a person faces a deadly disease or has chronic pain and the stress gets to them...it isnt always about relationships entirely. wish his family the best.

Dr. James Aune suffered from depression. This is a clinical mental illness caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. The arguement goes on about weather it is hereditary or caused by life events but one thing is for sure, you don't just "get over it". People often give this short sighted advise to people they love, only to wind up at a funeral.

Until you've experienced serious depression it's impossible to understand what it's like. I've struggled with clinical depression and anxiety disorder off and on and hit a really low spot in my late 20s. I was able to keep it pretty well hidden but there were quite a few mornings that I struggled just to get out of bed. It was the single most unpleasant thing I've ever experienced. It's also amazing some of the irrational thoughts that go through your head when you're in that state of mind.
Intense anxiety is another factor that often goes with depression that makes it much worse. It isn't simply feeling sad. Everyone feels that way sometimes. It's the feelings of hopelessness and impending doom related to depression/anxiety that people don't understand that makes it such a debilitating mental disorder.

Follow up to the story
Houston Chronicle
quote:

A Louisiana man is accused of using an underage female relative to lure a Texas A&M University professor into a sexually explicit online relationship that ended with blackmail demands and the professor leaping to his death from atop a campus parking garage.

quote:

"If I do not hear from you I swear to Gold Almighty that the police in your place of employment, students ALL OVER THE INTERNET ... ALL OF THEM will be able to see your conversations, text , pictures you sent," states another text.

quote:

At 10:29 a.m. Aune replied: "Killing myself now. And u will be prosecuted for blackmail."

Turned out this wasn't an empty threat.
